Who Ever Thought Chocolate Mousse Could Taste So Bad?

The other day I had it all planned out. My husband was to be home by 7 o'clock. Great, I thought to myself. I'll have the kids fed by six and ready for bed by seven thirty. Everything's going smooth so far.

It's now two o'clock, I have my handy dessert recipe card that I printed off the internet all ready to whip up a little something special for me and my hubby. Yeah, this is gonna be perfect. He's gonna love this chocolate mousse. Hmm, that's strange, never seen a recipe that called for mayo in chocolate mousse. Oh well, I got it off the internet, it must be right. Something just doesn't seem right about this chocolate mousse, but I decide to follow the recipe card and put it in the oven for 30 minutes.

It's now 2:30 and I've got thirty minutes before the kids come home from school. Great, time to jump in the shower real quick, get that out of the way, one less thing to do later. Okay, all dressed, two minutes to three. Yes, I'm on time. All dressed, dessert done, and kids home. I love being ahead of schedule.

Love story short: 7:30 rolls around, kids gone to bed, hubby gets in shower and I'm setting up dinner, a really nice candlelit dinner. Dinner goes great. Now, time for dessert. Can't wait for him to try this awesome recipe I found. Dessert time, honey!

Uhh!!! The most embarrassing moment in my life! I think the makers of this recipe got confused with potato salad or something. I figured the mayo might give it a nice consistency or something, trusted the website. Never again will I do that! Take it from me and go with your gut feeling. If a dessert recipe doesn't look right, it probably isn't going to taste right either. Moral of the story: Never make a chocolate mousse that lists mayo as one of the ingredients!!

By the way, the ruined chocolate mousse didn't totally ruin our evening. Food isn't the only dessert to serve after dinner!

Anyway, after that crazy ordeal, I decided that if I couldn't find a trustworthy site to go to for easy dessert recipes, that I would create my own, thus the page you are reading now. I am totally in love with easy dessert recipes. Ones that my kids can help me with, ones that don't take a lot of time and most importantly ones that actually taste good.

Check back tomorrow for my all-time favorite easy dessert recipes.

  • My Three Favorite Words...Easy Dessert Recipes!

Happy Hump Day everyone! Hump Day in case you’re not aware is code word for Wednesday, middle of the work week, thus the, “hump.” Anyway, I’m sure you just want to get down to business and get today’s easy dessert recipes, right? Okay, well here they are… Oh, by the way, this is another recipe that will suit non-vegetarians, vegetarians and vegans alike!! Can you say, “Universal?” Easy Vegan Pecan Cookies 3 cups unbleached white flour 2 cups sugar (vegetarian and vegans would probably agree to use evaporated cane juice sugar) 1 1/2 cup crushed pecans 1/2 cup vegetable oil (vegan margarine will also work) 2 tsp. baking powder Optional Ingredients: 8-16 oz. chocolate chips (vegan, of course, if required) Small amount of soy/rice milk Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly oil a cookie sheet. 2. Mix all dry ingredients together in a large bowl. 3. Add vegetable oil or vegan margarine, mix. 4. Add a bit of milk if necessary for dough to be workable, but not exactly sticky. 5. With a spoon, scoop up about a TBSP and roll into a ball with hands. Flatten the ball slightly and place onto greased cookie sheet. Bake approximately 15 minutes. Cool, eat and as always, ENJOY!! P.S. These cookies can also be rolled and cut with cookie cutters by the more adventurous bakers, however, keeping with my theme of easy dessert recipes, I chose not to advise that in the recipe. Till next time… Oops… One more thing, in case you need the link again, here it is: The Wicked Vegetarian Cookbook. - 2 years ago
