Superbowl XLIII is in the books
51Winners and Losers
With one tiptoe sideline catch...I won six bucks...but lost 65 as Santonio Holmes' dramatic touchdown became the difference maker for Superbowl 43.
With a 27-23 final score, this was a game for the ages, that featured the longest touchdown in Superbowl History.
It was my first year hosting the party, and for the past few seasons, no matter where we were the Superbowl is out Christmas. We've been spoiled with amazing plays, and crushing defeats.
This communal viewing for me started in Superbowl 37, when the Raiders were blasted by the Bucks in 2003. It was so bad, I kinda just drank myself to sleep, at Marc's Dad's house.
We all remember 2004, me and Marc were at Rainer's ex girlfriends house. We saw a streaker, a tight game...and Janet Jackson's boobie. We were all so shocked by that wardrobe malfunction, I remember everyone's cell phone ringing after calling each other if it really happened.
We spent '05 at Marc's Cousin Rico's spot, the game had a special meaning for me personally, that was the year I discovered Tedy Bruschi is Filipino, even though I despise the Patriots, it was a pleasure seeing him on Balitang America the weekend after, since I did lots of legwork to get our correspondents at SB 39.
06 was a nice chill Superbowl 40 at Karlo's, but the game was a boring route as the Steelers stomped on the Seahawks.
The Colts vs Bears in 07 was a bit tricky, I had work that day, and spent the day shuttling back and forth between San Carlos and Marc's place Foster City.
Last year 2008, SB 42 must have been the greatest Superbowl ever, as Eli Manning connected with David Tyree for arguably the greatest catch in sports history while we were at Karlo's spot.
This year, 2009, Superbowl 43, was full excitement and chicken wings. 7 friends came by, we kicked back with a few beers, and surprisingly Marc had wagered on the Cardinals as well, so we both had money riding on this one. As I said in a previous hub, I also bet on several scenarios, such as Fitzgerald scores 2 touchdowns, which I got, I lucked out on Edgerrin James scoring, Warner throwing a TD in the 3rd, and total score will be under 46 points or less.
With 35 seconds left in the game, I was looking at $170 in winnings, since my stipulations were going fine...if the Cardinals could just hold on...but nope, thanks to blown coverages, and a remarkable catch...I won a measly $6 since I bet that Holmes would score, and any chance at the $137 jackpot for the Cards winning.
Despite the dramatic catch, I thought there were 3 other plays that made this one of the greatest Superbowls ever...James Harrison's 100 yard romp, longest in Superbowl History, and both of Fitzgerald's touchdown grabs were jaw dropping, and his big one nearly won the game.
What a game. And the half time show...Puppy Bowl with a Kitty Half Time show was awesome! Anyone who watched Animal Planet is definitely a winner, and I just watched The Office special, hilarious. Haha.
