Surgery Games Online
86Ever wondered what it's like to be a surgeon? Ever wanted to perform brain surgery or patch up a heart that isn't working properly? You've come to the right place. These surgery games online give you the chance to do some of the most exciting and interesting things any doctor ever does- and have a lot of fun for free at the same time.
They also deliver something no other flash games can. They will change the way you see things. Seriously. You can really learn something about yourself and how things work- especially about how the body works.
As for the gore factor? Well, there's not too much of that in most of the games. Even so, younger kids should watch out for the warnings on games made for older teens. Parents should also check to see if they are really suitable for their children.
Video Games Help Real Surgeons Work Better
They recently found that surgeons who play a lot of video games for fun are quicker during operations and their patients do better afterwards- even more excuse to try these games.
Open Heart Surgery
This flash game allows you to perform a heart by-pass operation. Sometimes, the blood vessel that supplies the heart gets blocked. This is not good news- the heart needs plenty of blood to work properly. When it happens, a vein is taken from the person's leg and used to replace the blocked vessel.
It’s not for the faint of heart but its easy to get engrossed. By the end of it all you have snipped out the bad blood vessels and sewn in the replacements. With a little practice your patient will live a hundred years.
One comment from a player:
'its scary being a doctor but I rate the game 5 out of 5.'
So what are you waiting for? There are sick people waiting to be saved!
The Heart Game at RollerCoaster
A race against time to save a patient with a heart problem. Keep a close eye on the vital signs...
Virtual Knee Surgery
Everything wears out in the end. Sportsmen like footbal players can wear out a knee real quick. The operation here lets people walk and run normally with a metal and plastic knee that you install.
This game gives a lot of information about surgical procedures. Some parts of the game include multiple choice questions like what 3 drugs should be given before surgery? Don't worry if you don't know the answers- you get a lot of help along the way from your friendly doctor guide and it is amazing how quickly you can pick it all up.
After getting the patient ready you move on to using a bone drill, a mallet, a rongeur, a scalpel and a bovie. These are the essential tools of any surgery and if you want to know how they work. all you have to do is play the game- or read the help section..
Help with the Knee Surgery Game
If you want some help with the medical words used in this game try the help section at the bottom of this page. You don't need this to play the game but it makes more sense of what is happening.
Virtual Heart Surgery Game
There are four different heart operations to perform here.
You can perform a heart transplant, a heart bypass operation, a hole in the heart operation or fix some heart valves that are not working properly.
Younger children should be aware that this game involves some quite scary procedures (even though it’s in a cartoon, non-gory format) like slicing through the breast bone and opening the chest with retractors.
Produced and presented by a charity dedicated to helping people with their hearts.
Virtual Hip Replacement
Like every game from Edheads this is gives you a good idea of what is involved in a real operation. Again, it is an procedure that people like sportsman need- or anyone who has used their body too much and too hard. There are some new techniques and some new tools to learn about.
A comment from one player:
'It is difficult but good for kids and lets them play and learn. I like that someone can walk again.'
Virtual Brain Surgery
This one of the biggest and most realistic games with 5 separate steps.
You need to cure a woman who has an illness called Parkinson’s disease. She’s been sick for a while and it makes her shake. The shakes are so bad that she can hardly sign her own name.
The problem is deep inside her brain and can be fixed by opening her skull and placing an electrode in the area that is not working properly. The electrode will deliver a small electric shock every so often to stimulate the brain and stop the shakes.
The most difficult part of this operation is making sure you find the right place in the brain. It’s dark in there and the electrode needs to go deep. If the electrode is even a fraction away from where it should be, the operation won’t work. Worse still, she could get sicker- much, much sicker.
The patient will need to be carefully prepared with screws (called fiducials) in her skull before the operation. On the day of the operation you shave her hair off, drill some holes in her skull (seriously big holes) then attach a machine using the fiducials. This machine will push the electrode into the right spot- but only if you set it up right.
Your patient is given medicines to make her sleepy during the operation but it is easy to wake her up and ask questions. Once the electrode is in place and working, you ask her to do some math and then write her name. If she can do everything OK, it means the electrode is in the right place and you are good to finish up that part of the game.
There’s more to do, so play the game and get some brain surgery skills.
Just for Fun Games
These are not your 'learn-real-surgery' games but there are a lot of fun to play. There is a very sick rabbit to cure and a plenty of teeth going bad that need to be fixed. So enjoy.
Dental Damage
There are a lot of teeth to be zapped in this game! You are fighting tooth decay, performing root canal treatments and pulling molars from every corner of a very big mouth.
This game is all about being quick with the mouse and spotting the bad stuff before it’s too late. Nobody wants to be without any teeth. How can you eat your candy bars?
- Dental Damage
Floss, drill and blast those teeth into perfect shape!
Drawn Together Cavity Search
This is a fun game from Comedy Central. You get to operate on every character in the Drawn Together cast including Princess Clara, Wooldoor Sockbat and Spanky Ham.
The Princess needs her tentacle fat removing (very icky). Spanky Ham needs some bacon slicing out of his intestines. Wooldoor Sockbat is having a lot of trouble with a gigantic tape worm.
C’mon now, you can’t let these guys suffer anymore- you need to save them for the next show!
Cure the Bunny
If pet rabbits have played a big part in your life you might want to avoid this game. It is not kind to furry animals.
On the other hand it has great graphics and music and is pretty funny even for people who think it's wrong to chase spiders out of the house (but it’s raining out!).
- Revive a rabbit with jump leads.
- Shave off his soft and cuddly fur.
- Operate with a scalpel the size of a fence post..
Let's Operate
This is probably the simplest game on this page but it still gives you something to think about. Your patients have a whole collection of strange things stuck inside them and you have to cut them out.
You need to be quick and you need to be accurate. The patient's blood is running out. Also, this operation is performed without an anesthetic and you must to follow the scar lines of an old operation- if you stay within the scar lines the patient feels no pain. If you stray off course with that big mean-looking scalpel, your patient howls.
If you want to get through all ten levels you will be good with a mouse and don't forget to watch that blood bag. If it runs dry, you lose.
Games for Mature Audiences
Dark Cut 1, 2, 3
People who like the surgery games above also like this series. The difference here is scary, realistic graphics that make the games only suitable for older teens. You are a surgeon trying to fix up soldiers hurt in battle. These are games that need a lot of practice to win but are very addictive.
Dark Cut is best played at Armor games- they made them. It's only here that you find all the bonus scenarios. You will find them all on this page, way down the bottom (together with amateur surgeon below) armorgames.com.
Amateur Surgeon Game
A crazy pizza delivery boy runs over an old hobo with his truck. What can he do? The old guy doesn't look so good. An operation is needed immediately. Most of us would dial 911 but our delivery boy has always dreamed of being a surgeon, This is his great chance! A pizza slice is his surgical main tool but some salad tongs come in useful too. The hobo recovers then teaches the boy how to perform other operations- since, by pure coincidence, he used to be a doctor. The over-the-top graphics are straight out of South Park.
These games are R-rated!

The Frog
Open up a frog and see what is inside- or put a frog together again from all its bit and pieces. One good thing about this game is that there is no mess. Real frogs can be a bit squashy. Help With the Knee Online Surgery Game
Here are some words that might be new to you, explained.
vital signs: these are all the things a doctor measures to see if someone is healthy. They include how much oxygen is in the blood (oximetry) how fast the heart is beating (pulse rate), and blood pressure which is an indicator of how strongly the heart is beating.
prep the patient: get the patient ready for surgery. The area to be operated on needs cleaning and making sterile. Some hair might need to shaved off. In this game a plaster cast needs to put around the knee so it won't move..
patella, femur, tibia, : these are the names of the bones in the leg.
patella= knee, femur= thigh bone, tibia= shin bone in lower leg, .
cartilage: this is the white stuff between the bones. Bone is hard and can be brittle. Two bones rubbing together are painful and they soon chip and wear out. Cartilage is soft and slippery (think gristle in a pork chop). It protects the ends of the bone while allowing easy movement of joints.
the IV lead: this is short for 'intravenous lead' and means a tube that feeds into a vein in an arm or leg via a needle pushed through the skin. Doctors can slowly put drugs into a patient's blood using an IV. Sometimes, IVs are used to give new blood, food or salt to a patient.
an incision: an opening in the skin, usually cut with a scalpel.
prosthetic: this is something that is added to the body to help movement or posture (how you sit or stand). A wooden leg is a prosthetic. In this game, the prosthetic is the new metal and plastic knee. The patient needs it because his own bones have worn out,
a rongeur: This is a tool like a pair of pliers or heavy duty scissors. It is used to clip off any pieces of bone that are not needed or are in the way.
perpendicular lines: lines that run at right angles to the main line.An easier way of saying this is a perpendicular line cuts across the main line.
bovie: the red hot end of a bovie can cut through skin and tissue. In this game, it is used to burn and seal the ends of blood vessels to stop bleeding .
anaesthesiologist: this is the person who gives drugs or gas to make sure the patient sleeps or feels no pain before, during, or after the operation. Common things given are muscle relaxants to make the patient comfortable, amnestics so they won't remember the procedures and anti inflammatories to stop swelling.
Help with Virtual Brain Surgery Game
Parkinson’s Disease: an illness that makes people shake. It is usually only found in very old people. A part of the brain has stopped working properly.
Deep brain stimulation: A thin wire is used to send very small amounts of electricity to the part of the brain that isn’t working properly. People with illnesses like Parkinson’s disease then stop shaking and can live a better life.
Skull: the bony part of the head that protects the brain from injury. Brains are soft and delicate organs that most of us (but not all) use a lot. They need plenty of protection.
Sterile: something is sterile if it has no bacteria (germs) on it.
Betadine: this is a bright orange liquid which kills all germs and makes sure that everything is sterile. If bacteria get into a wound they can easily cause an infection and make the person sick. Sometimes betadine is mixed into a kind of plastic to give something called IO that is used to make a wall against infection.
Scalp: the skin on the top of the head
A local anesthetic: this is a medication which stops a patient feeling any pain where it has been injected. It is different to a general anesthetic which causes the patient to sleep and forget everything that happens during the operation.
Fiducials: These are markers on the patient that are used to attach a machine. In this game the markers are screws and the machine is the Tower system which pushes the electrode into place. The fiducials make sure the surgeon knows exactly where everything is and the machine does not move about during the operation.
CT scan: CT stands for computer tomography. A machine takes a whole series of different xrays of a patient from different angles. A computer puts all the x-rays together to produce a 3D picture.
MRI Scan: this is similar to a CT scan. It builds up a picture of the inside of the brain. Xrays are good for looking at bones. MRI scans are good for looking at softer parts (like brains).
Frameless Stereotaxy.:This uses the MRI and CT scans to give a computerized view of the inside of the patient's head. You can ‘see’ where the probe is on a screen and move it to the right place.
Neurosurgeon: a specila kind of surgeon who operates on the brain or nervous system.
Subthalamic Nucleus (STN): this is the part of the brain that controls movements. When it goes wrong people can shake uncontrollably. This is the target for the probe in this virtual surgery game.
Trajectory: the path or route something follows. In this game it is the route the probe takes.
