The brakes seemed very powerful, the engine incredibly still and quiet after my rumbling v-twin with after-market pipes. The 1400 includes a very lusty motor, looking at the specs it was apparent that most of the action would take put between 1,000rpm and around 7,500rpm, although foremost I had to receive the 500 mile service outside the way before I was allowed to exceed 4,500rpm.

As it turned out, this wasn't a bit too a lot of of a chore, the 1400 being able to outrun all although the most determined traffic employing these revs, indeed 100mph comes up at about 4,800rpm and 70mph at 3,200rpm, so you may see where I am coming from. The gearbox is as likely from Suzuki, slick and with not one false neutral to date. From 500 miles to 1,000 miles the rev limit was restricted to bursts of 6,750rpm, most definitely decently to see off most contenders in the traffic light luxurious prix.

The tyres, (Bridgestone BT020s), and brakes, (same equipment as the GSX-R1000), bedded in nicely, handsome healthy grip and stopping power. There includes been some criticism of the brakes in the home motorcycle press, although to date and 3,300 miles of riding have also given me no make for alarm, however I will be changing to braided hoses at a latter date.

After riding a cruiser for so long, and a nice one at that, the handling was a revelation, steering crisp and true, and with some easing of the very conscious counter-steering needed on the VN800, the 1400 feels positively sporty.

When parked or at sluggish parking lot speeds the Intruder's bars want to flop to one side or the other as a outcome of the raked front end. To the bike's credit, this sensation goes away rapidly as speeds rise and the openhanded Suzuki's steering is quite nice beneath simply about all conditions. On the highway the bike goes straight and true, and when you reach your favorite twisties you'll find astonishingly light and fairly straightaway steering on tap.
