Swastika – The Auspicious Symbol in Hindu Religion
76Significance of Swastika in Hinduism
Swastika is perhaps the most controversial symbol in history. The swastika is an ancient symbol and very common in India. According to Wikipedia a Svastika is an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles in either right-facing form or its mirrored left-facing form. At times dots are also seen added between the arms. It is a religious symbol associated with Indian Culture and religions like Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism. In India this symbol is also used in the electoral ballet papers. One may also remember this as the Symbol of Nazism. Swastik is believed to be an amalgam of the words Su and Asati. Su means 'good' and Asati meant 'to exist'. Therefore combined it means well-being, good fortune, luck, auspicious etc. This word is also seen spelled as suastika, swastika, sauwastika and svastica.
Swastika symbol has a lot of relevance for people in India and has been used since Vedic times and for over 3,000 years. Swastika is considered to be a mark of auspiciousness and good fortune. Though, Swastik sign is adopted by people of all religions, but it is especially popular amongst the Hindus. The swastika is considered extremely holy and auspicious by all Hindus and is regularly used to decorate items related to Hindu culture. The four limbs of the Hindu swastika is said to denote the Four Vedas, the four goals of life, the four stages of life, the four directions in space, the four seasons and the four Yugas. The symbol is quite often seen used in the art and architecture of Hindus. It is used in Hindu Temples, Puja Rituals, Yantras, Wedding Cards, Doorways, clothing and jewelry. In India, the Swastika is used in two forms, the right-handed Swastika and the left-handed Swastika. These two symbols represent the two forms of the creator Lord Brahma. The right-hand swastika is one of the 108 symbols of the god Vishnu. Swastik is also associated with Lord Ganesha and this Hindu Deity is often shown sitting on a lotus flower on a bed of swastikas. It is also the Symbol of the Sun God and represents in the rotation of its arms the course taken daily by the Sun and the Sign of rebirth.
The Swastik Symbol is widely used in Feng Shui and Vastu Shastra as a Symbol of auspiciousness, good fortune and protection.

You are right. But the Nazi Symbol has a different look when compared to the one used in Hinduism. Thanks for the Comments.
Great info! I think the ancient Celts had a similar symbol, too.
Hitler is an aberration of recent western history. The Nazi history is very short and recent, while Svastika has been around and considered holy among Hindus, Jains, Buddhists for many centuries. The people of the European origin should look beyond the recent twisted history and understand what Svastika is all about.
