Swine Flu Fear
74
Like a bad penny, the Swine Flu keeps coming back to our attention.
In a previous article, it was my contention that the Swine Flu “Pandemic” was a manufactured global disaster that was waiting in the wings. The World Health Organizations declaration of Pandemic was both premature and reckless. This organization diagnosed a Pandemic when only 68 deaths were confirmed worldwide and 1000 people were suspected of carrying the disease. The Department of Homeland Security got in on the act almost immediately by declaring a National Health Emergency that was announced by Napolitano herself at a news conference.
As I stated in the previous article, in the 1990’s 36,000 people a year died from the common flu. During the 1968-69 outbreak of the Hong Kong flu, 750,000 people died in that one year span and 500,000 in Hong Kong alone were infected. Compare that to the current numbers and a case for pandemic cannot be made for the H1N1 virus.
If you are afraid of the Swine Flu then the current fear mongers in government and media are doing their jobs well. I’m not talking about conspiracy theories here. I’m talking about propaganda. If you are afraid of the swine flu I have one question for you: Why?
H1N1 is a new strain of an already existing virus known as Swine Flu. We had a swine flu outbreak in 1974, and a pseudo (think fake) outbreak in 1947. These are not even blips on the Pandemic scale. There is a lot more energy generated by the fear of this flu than there is actual danger from contracting it.
Of course I’m not an expert, but common sense will tell you that something stinks to high heaven with this entire mess. As of October 23rd, 2009, fully 13 months after its genesis, the swine flu is responsible for 5,382 deaths globally. Assuming a world population of 6 billion, that’s a 0.000000897% mortality rate. Now, compare that with the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918-1919. The world population then was at around 1.6 billion and the mortality totals were difficult to obtain but were put between 20-100 million people globally. This equates to 2.5% of the world’s population. This total was reached in 2 years.
I could give you example after example of things that have better odds of killing you than the current outbreak of swine flu but I won’t insult your intelligence. You get my point.
Obama announced a “National Emergency” (already announced by Napolitano months ago) with predictable timing. Not only does this current administration need to get our eyes and ears off it’s laughable attempts to steer the foundering economy, but it’s a nice segue into keeping alive the desire to bureaucratize national health care. The media and the government are scaring you with visions of a virus right out of Stephen King’s “The Stand”, when in reality it’s a straw man argument for quarantines and enforced vaccinations.
I have not had a flu shot in 32 years and I don’t plan on getting one anytime soon either. When they come to my door wanting to vaccinate, I’ll just say thanks – but no thanks.

Concur - Good Hub!
Great hub, it's thoughtful and full of common sense. Thanks.
I agree.
There is nothing particularly unusual about the number of people who are coming down with H1N1. What is unusual is the fact that it is more deadly for young people. I was around in 1974, probably like most of the people who read these articles. That means that we probably have some immunity built up because of our exposure to that 1974 strain, that is also helping us to become somewhat immune to the current strain of Swine Flu.
Fear-mongering, hasn't that been going on since 9/11?
Those long H1N1 vaccination lines I keep seeing on TV remind me of the post office...
Great Hub. Thanks for the information. Reference to King's "The Stand" was good. I wonder, did The X Files ever cover this territory? If not, they should've.
Brian,Hmrjmr,Breakfastpop and Donna - thanks for the comments!
DiamondRN- While researching stats for this article, I learned that the medical community believes anyone who contracted this virus before 1957 may have a built in immunity to this. More evidence that this is not the first time this virus has reared its head. Thanks for the comment!
Nemingha - Absolutely! It is difficult to seperate real news from manufactured scenarios. A newer generation might be more easily fooled. Great instruction is to watch a few old newscasts from Walter Cronkite and others like him. Its simply amazing how they report the news event and add no commentary or embellishment. Thanks for the comment!
Linda - Now there's a metaphore I could use in a novel! Thanks for dropping by.
Ken - Might be a good idea to reference old shows. lol The scary vision of Orwell's 1984 would not come about all at once but inch by inch be fed to a sleeping population. We had better wake up now! Notice I didn't say soon. It's already in our face I think.
great hub! yes, I'm sick to death of hearing about swine flu here in the UK...god knows how many times I've already had it and recovered from it! yes, I think it must be second to war on terrorism on the media's propaganda list, so doubt if we'll ever hear the last of it! anyway, thanks for posting!
I definitely agree, and you stated the case well. This swine flu thing is fear-mongering. They (the pharmaceutical companies) want to sell a vaccine. They make a fortune!
The real facts of the case are, it in no way qualifies for an epidemic, people don't ORIDNARILY die from it unless they are a high-risk, in which case they could die from pneumonia brought on by a common cold, and most people recover without any treatment at all different from the regular flu.
I wont get a flu shot either , great hubb :)
I am not going to get the swine flu vaccination either. Last night, my local station showed one of the kids got a side effect and he was using the walker like the old people do. They still claim that it is very safe and that was a one in a million. Well I do not one to be that unlucky millionth person. Thanks.
myownworld - Thanks for the comment. I agree that it probably won't go away.
Paradise 7 - Great point! To be an epidemic it must be able to do it's dirty work on most, if not all, of the population and not be specific to a high risk group. Thanks.
starme77 - Thanks for the comment.
Dao Hoa - That's a very scary consequence of putting something into our bodies on the say so of so called experts. We do it everyday in the form of pills from prozac to vitamins. It's something to give serious thought to. Thanks for the comment.

I'll go with that, you are either going to get it or you are not and if you do there is plenty of evidence already to show you are more likely to come through it than not.
