Swine Flu Symptoms-What you need to know (By Jodi M)
56How We Get Swine Flu
What is Swine Flu?
Swine flu is often mistaken for some type of deadly, killer virus that will instantly wipe out anybody who comes in contact with it. However, H1N1 Influenza is actually very similar to the common flu. Prevention methods, symptoms, and treatments are all very similar to a seasonal flu, with a few exceptions. Because this strain of the flu is different than viruses our bodies are used to, it is more difficult for us to fight it off. The Swine flu spreads more quickly than other diseases we've seen, but it isn't necessarily more lethal than any other strain of influenza. People with good immune system health usually combat the disease with no complications.
Swine Flu Symptoms
Swine flu symptoms are almost identical to normal flu, with the addition of possible vomiting and diarrhea. Expect to have (in any combination) a sore throat, fever, cough, congestion, runny nose, body aches, chills, and fatigue. If you seem to have caught a cold or flu, watch for these Swine Flu signs: Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion, severe or persistent vomiting, and flu-like symptoms that improve, but then come back with worsening fever or cough. These are all signs that your flu may be swine flu, and you need to see a doctor immediately.
What to do about Swine Flu symptoms
If you seem to be experiencing swine flu symptoms, there are a few precautions to take. First of all, do not spread it around town. Refrain from going to school, work, the grocery store, the post office, even your mom's house. Nobody at these places wants you to sneeze swine flu on them. One place you SHOULD go, however, is your doctor. He will give you information on how long you will be contagious, what to take to relieve symptoms, and what precautionary steps to take. Second, the swine flu is very similar to a seasonal flu, so remember that your symptoms can be combatted with pain relievers and decongestants. Third, if you aren't experiencing symptoms don't lock yourself in your house. It is good to take precautions to kill germs and boost your immune system, but there's no need to panic and go to drastic measures.
