CDC Recommends

The H1N1 virus is contagious 2 days before outbreak and 7 days after onset.  Children and Adults are encouraged to stay at home during the time of discovery.    The only thing that can help this flu to stop spreading is washing your hands.  Because this flu is viral and not bacterial disinfectant sprays and hand sanitizers are no replacement for washing your hands and cleaning the with sop and hot water.  Washing your hands throughout the day will reduce your risk of infection as well as spreading it to others.

At a meeting I went to yesterday they said the elderly were not so much at risk if they have had the flu back in 1957...they are last on the list to receive any vaccine...across the board I was told by a trustworthy health official here where I live

Also if there should be a Pandemic be supplied with at least 3-5 days worth of food. The stores where many people congregate may be closed to prevent spreading of the flu...

Good Luck all and My Prayers always...:O) Hugs G-Ma

GMA, What does having the fle in 57 have to do with it, is it about the same strain? From what I have read I am a little cautious about the vaccine too. Paranoid, i guess. Now I have got to go shopping since you mentioned it!

hugs

Thanks for the update Dori. I also heard of the vaccine being widely available. Is this true or do they still need to test it?

The vaccine is not available. For the regualar Influenza it is but not for the swine. The swine is 3 flu strains in one so it should be ready by mid october, according to the CDC. I think it is about to runit's course unless it is going to start traveling backwards and starts over

thanks for stopping by

I knew a guy who was crippled by the swine flu shot in the military when he had the flu and was given the shot.

Advisor,

I don't even understand why they are giving the military the vaccine. It hasn't even been approved yet. They are out guinea pigs, my heart goes out to him.

yea carson, it kills bacterial germs but not viral. It is mostly alcohol that evaporates and takes the germs with it. It is ok to use but I don't depend on it, not working at a Liberal Arts College around a petri dish of germs all day. College kids can be just gross, with all due respect to any that may read this ofcourse!
