The modern swivel bar stool has made a long, long journey from the time of its inception. In fact, the story of this classic piece of furniture goes so far back into history that no one really knows its true origins. But we can leave that for the historians, can’t we? I am a lot more interested in what is out there today, in the modern market.

One thing you have to think about when buying swivel bar stool is how high they need to be. They typically come in sizes of counter height and bar height. And then of course, you can pay a little extra and get an adjustable height swivel bar stool. This is the best way to go if you are not sure exactly upon which surface it needs to be level with.

Next I would consider what material you want it to be made out of. One of the most popular materials is the wood swivel bar stool, which I really like a lot. It keeps things from becoming too stiff and metallic. But that is of course just my lone opinion. It certainly is not fact! If you are partial too another type of design, then you can think about a wicker version or even a Montello swivel bar stool. All will do the trick, of course. I would say that the wicker is going to be the most prone by far to break. So if you have a bunch of kids running around your house you may want to avoid this type.

These swivelers look great as an addendum to your little breakfast nook. I have used this many times myself. They invite a casual sipping of coffee or conversation. It is like a watered down version of some of the atmosphere you get in a bar, without the necessity of drinking and drunkenness. I am sure that is what most people want in their kitchens. It is what I wanted.

I love to swing around and swivel in my bar stool just for fun. I will be just reading the newspaper and sipping my coffee when all of a sudden I will put down my coffee mug and just spin around and around! Oh, it is so fun, I must tell you. But of course most people are not going to pay to get a chair just for fun. So take all my previous style tips to heart and figure out what you would like to see in your own home. There really is a lot of room for whatever you want. A few years ago there were way less choices. Nowadays the swivel bar stool is practically in 50% of all homes, so you can bet that real designers have come to put their work stamp on this piece of furniture.
