Symbolize Your Love of Friendship
Symbols of love and friendship are all around. Like the saying, a picture paints a thousand words, so do symbols express what words can never do. And like the Rose, it speaks not a thing yet says it all. The fragrance and colors express feelings unsaid. Politely it whispers 'I love you' and sets a mood and is known to help where words can often fail.
For Valentines day, just about anything can symbolize your love to a friend that they can keep and cherish forever.
We love to know how others feel about us. It somehow validates who we are and warms our little hearts.
Here are some symbols of love and friendship I have found that are still being used and passed between friends today.

Friendship bracelets - a braided bracelet made of string to be worn on the wrist of a friend until it breaks symbolizing the worth of that friendship. The bracelets are made by the giver of both male and female mostly during the tween years.
Friendship stones - a little pouch of gemstones to be kept in the pocket or worn around the neck symbolizing the wish that you made for your friend or the luck and happiness that the gems would bring.
Royal crown tattoo - a royal crown over two hands clasped inside a heart shape is the symbol of a king-sized friendship. Other tattoos used are the celtic and asian friendship symbols.
Jade plant - the green juicy leaves of this friendship tree has been said to spread joy and happiness between two friends. It surrounds the friendship with the essence of love. Friends love to give the jade plant as a housewarming gift.
Harmony turtle - a symbol of blessings, harmony and long life. The turtle helps to preserve and protect the friendship.
Interlinked hearts - hearts side by side symbolize togetherness. It is a good omen for a lasting relationship and for good fortune.
Arrows of friendship - In Native American cultures two arrows together is symbolic of bringing togeher two people or two tribes for the common goal of both parties as well as friendship.
Turquoise stones - symbolizes protection and steady growth and strength to a friendship.
Amazonite egg - a hope stone that is meant to open communication between friends.
Red or black coral - a symbol of life force energy for your friendship.
Unakite stone - a symbol to uplift your friends spirits.
Malachite stone - symbol of appreciation of your friendship.
Hematite stone - a symbol of good health for your friend.
Rhodonite ball - aka the 'rescue stone' surrounding the friendship with strength and stability symbolizing a strong bond of friendship same as the red-tipped rose.
Promise ring - exchange of rings in the name of friendship.
A ceramic angel - symbolizes all friends forming one angelic spirit.
A stuffed teddy bear - a symbol that shows how much you care and how comforting your friendship can be.
Red rose - shows love, signifies beauty and romance. A single red rose is the most special way to say "I Love You".
Yellow rose with a red tip - given as a symbol of a true bond of friendship.
White rose - symbolize loyalty and sincere love.
Pink rose - symbolizes gratitude and appreciation. It depicts elegance and grace with a touch of gentleness.
Orange rose - a symbol of togetherness and represents the spirit of unity.
Peach rose - a symbol of anticipation and hope for the future.
Purple rose - symbolize love at first sight.
Free Hugs
A smile, a hug or a simple hello - to show they are your friends and they care about you.
A secret handshake - only the two of you know and use to show that you both like each other.
A high five - used between friends to show you did a good job or that they just wanted to say hello.
Using a nickname - that shows a friend that you know them and would like to know them better.
Love and friendship symbols are very random and different for all races and customs. Some friends will kiss each other on each cheek and if that works for them then that is all that matters.
Friends will come by the many but only a few are lasting. They are the ones that teach us the lessons, who spread their smiles, motivate us, help us, and lift our spirits. They are the ones to keep for they have made a lasting impression on our lives.
In order to have a true friendship with someone there must be all honesty and truth. If there isn't then this isn't a true friendship.
For people to be friends with another person, they must do things without the expectation that their friend will have to repay them.

I had just read myself about the inaugural journey of our new President and how the train is a powerful symbol. Where 100s of folks stood waving as Obama passed by on train from Philadelphia to Washington. How that morning's train mirrored President Lincoln's journey by rail in 1861. The only significant difference was that Lincoln's train did not stop in Maryland because it was a slave state. But if we are to fulfill our new President Mr Obama's vision for this country we must put aside our differences and all get on board this train!

The friendship bracelets were big back in the late eighties when I was in fifth and sixth grade. Today I like the teddy bear as a symbol of friendship best. Cute hub!
Glad I checked this out as I am running out of ideas on how to be practical without compromising originality and thoughfulness! That said, I'd go for the hi-five! LOL

Dottie once again a great hub. I think I will add more rosebushes to the garden this year and I will make them the yellow variety in the mean time here is a large bouquet of vitual yellow roses for all the hubland friends to share.

I loved the Troggs video, as well as all of the information. This hub is a handy guide that I will definitely use! I'm not telling what I'm choosing for Charlie or the Angels, just yet....it's supposed to be a surprise.
I have received gifts of stones in a bag and I love them and will keep them always. One was from my kids, another from a friend. They mean a lot to me because the givers are special to me. I haven't seen my friend for a long time since she moved to the coast, but I think of her every time I see the little bag.

Hello Dottie, What a great and descriptive hub! I had no idea all of those things represented friendship and love. The huge jade plant that the former owner of this house had (too big to move) is in full bloom on our patio. Bet she hated to leave it! Will think of the meaning now when I see it every day. Dottie: I liked the meaning of the stones; never thought of buying stones or crystals for Valentines and I used to sell crystals and gemstones. Good idea! Its true that friendships are valuable, and some stay for a short while, but three us have remained friends and kept in touch for over 30 years. They are anticipating my visit to NY this year so we can all get together, ladies only, no husbands or boyfriends. :)
