I do not have design skills per se, but I can whip up a website and ftp it to my server fairly quickly. I have learned php and MySQL by buying prefab websites from eBay and picking apart the code.

Sometimes I forget that many people out there wanting to start an online business do not have any of these skills and just setting up a WordPress site is difficult if not impossible.

So today I decided to try out Synthasite.com

It took be just a few minutes to setup this form http://peterfuller.synthasite.com/

I even signed up for free at Wufoo to create the form.

Synthasite is a browser based Ajax website creator that is intutive to use. It has WYSIWYG editing with drag and drop capabilities.

Edit screen at Synthasite

I created my sample site in less than five minutes. Everything is drag and drop and very easy to edit. I even added Google Adsense to the page.

The following widgets are available at this time:

  • Photos from Flickr or Smugmug
  • YouTube, Google and Metacafe video
  • other company's widgets like Google Gadgets to Skype Me
  • Forms from Wufoo or Form Assembly
  • Google Adsense
  • Google Map
  • Text blocks
  • Images from your computer
  • Two column layout
  • Your own html

  • file uploads

You can also select from 68 style templates.

You can even edit the page details like title, description and page heading. However I did not see any place to add keywords for seo purposes.

I created a one page site but you can build a multi-page site with a menu for navigation.

Final page created at Synthasite

Synthasite is a creation of Vinny Lingham and his team at IncuBeta.

They raised $5 million last November and are currently in beta. Planned changes include chat, shared page editing and sharing components with others in the community, estimated at 14,000 users at this time.

If you find yourself challenged when it comes to websites I suggest you sign up for free and give it a try.
