Synthetic identity theft

Synthetic identity theft is more difficult to track, as it doesn't show on either person's credit report directly, but may appear as an entirely new file in the credit bureau or as a subfile on one of the victim's credit reports.

Consumers can be affected if their names become confused with the synthetic identities, or if negative information in their subfiles impacts their credit. synthetic fraud

Plus synthetic fraud is said to be more difficult to track down than other types of identity theft where a person assumes your identity, because the theft is actually tied in to a different name – sometimes a fictitious entity – making the illegal activities more difficult to detect - -even taking years to do so.  Synthetic ID theft is where someone steals only your social security number not your identity; they give YOUR social security number a new identity, sometimes multiple ones.  Synthetic Identity Theft Facts & Figures,All forms of identity theft are escalating.  This type of ID theft is more difficult to find, and to trace. It is almost impossible to prevent. Thieves are creating fictitious persons with legitimate social security numbers. This is what makes it so hard to detect. Once the new person is up and running with their new identity, they can open bank accounts, new credit card accounts, buy a new car maybe even purchase a house. Not only are there spending habits flowing to your credit report but also their driving, medical and criminal records. This is scary stuff and it is happening big time.

Everyone is a target

Identity theft is ageless: Everyone is a target, young, (children under 18 have become the fastest growing target), Over 21 to death, yes even after death we are not safe from the IT thieves. They will steal dead people's identities in a heartbeat!  A variation of identity theft which has recently become more common is synthetic identity theft, in which identities are completely or partially fabricated. The most common technique is combining a real social security number with a name and birthdate other than the ones associated with the number.Synthetic identity theft Credit Cards
