T M Soundararajan
60T. M. Soundararajan (TMS) (born on March 24, 1923 in Madurai), is a playback singer from the Tamil film industry for Four Decades. He gave voice to most of M. G. Ramachandran , Sivaji Ganesan, Jey Sankar and Ravichandran songs in Tamil films. Popularly known as "TMS" is from the Sourashtra community from Madurai. He is a devotee of Tamil God Lord Muruga and sang many devotional songs on Him. Even at the Age of 85 years, he is still actively singing for Tamil Film industry and the latest one "Valiban Suttrum Ulagam" along with P Susila is expected to be released in this year .

Before 1950's it was ruled by "bhagavathar's" and most of the songs were karnatic base songs. TMS started his carrier with these kinds of Karnatic based songs . In that period, there is no such technical support and they sing in the stages without mic. Those who dedicated themselves to music, take so much of practices to mould their voices. TFM got so many genius like MS, MLV, PATTAMMAL with that qualities. TMS is also that sort of person who can sing from lower range to any higher ranges.TMS had a powerful voice, good modulation, good pronunciation and a versatility. (Few people consider gimmicks and mimicry as versatility).
After 1975, technically we are improved a lot, we got fresh music waves, but I feel singing quality is limited. We got two excellent singers like SPB and KJY and they are good at their voice range. Why we coulnt find a person like TMS, who sings in all ranges ? I feel The power of tamil is missing now a days like songs "engal thiravida pon naade" " chenthamzh then mozhiyal" "paatum naane" …. Now a days even in sad songs " the feeling of an ordinary person is reflected well and I can say it comes from heart. But think about a normal person who lost everything, his emotion will come from the stomack (abdomen)like a song "yaarukkaga" " intha naadaagam antha medayil" , "neeyum naanua", "paar magale paar" etc.. It is missing now a days.Thiyaraja Bhagavathar , PU chinnappa , TR mahalingam, Chidambaram jeyaraman, seerkazhi gouvindarajan are a type of singers who can sing in very high pitches and each one got a peculiar voice also. A.M.raja, A.L raghavan, P.B.S are for low pitches and they were used for very soft songs. SPB, KJY, JayaChandran are used for lower and medium ranges. So,many others like chandra babu , Malaysia vasudevan also contributed so much. No where else we can see these many varites of songs and singers. Now a days most of the new singers are trying to copy SPB or KJY and they are lacking of originality.I feel , TMS is the one of the few persons who can sing in any rangeVoice of TMS is Unbeatable

DMK is planning to felicitate versatile singer T.M. Soundarrajan. M.K. Azhagiri, son of CM M. Karunanidhi, is planning up to honour T.M. Soundarrajan in Madurai. From his childhood, Azhagiri is a fan of T.M. Soundarrajan songs.
T.M. Soundarrajan, who is still singing in live concerts, has once expressed his feelings towards the lack of recognition. He was duly honored by the leading light music troupe, Lakshman Sruthi, which conducted a show featuring his songs alone. The musical troupe took T.M. TMS and PS combination is the best ever in Tamil industry. His songs and voice, Tamil pronunciation, we are yet to get a singer of this kind. No one can deny talent.
One remark what I feel:
K.Balachander is one of the best directors of Tamil film industry. His best film is Sindhu Bhairavi which portrayed a Carnatic singer character. What can one feel upon seeing Sivakumar in that character? Having an oil combed hair, Thiru neeru, kunguma pottu, anga vasthiram, square framed specks etc., I can see only TMS. I feel that Balachander wanted to see TMS in his dream character.
This could be the best of rewards/recognition TMS could have received.

The name TMS on hearing will Rejuvenate us completely. It is not a big deal to say TMS is a great singer of all ages . Even though there is not much Recognition given to the great singer, God has blessed him with the three giants of Music i.e. Thiyagaraja Swamigal. Muthuswamy Dikshidhar. ShyamaSastri. in his name, which no one on earth is blessed with.

I learned the real meaning of life and the way we live it after hearing the great evergreen songs by Sri TMS. Lord Muruga himself will "melt" on hearing the songs sung by Sri TMS. Long live the great Sri TMS .Lord Muruga will bless you for all the great songs you have sung for eternity.

TM Soundararajan deserves at least a Padma Bhushan, if not Vibhushan - it is a matter of artistic shame that his genius has not been recognized and felicitated nationally.
He is an absolute phenomenon and cultural treasure for India, and for Tamils in particular.
The government at state and central levels must act quickly to remedy this glaring oversight.

his voice only matches for sivaji and m.g.r.maybe thre are some one voice also matches for sivaji and m.g.r.oo that day.but on that day alot of peoples also missed their voices for m.g.r. and sivaji.pity ful singers.the missed one also can sings better than t.m.s. the example is like me.every time i watching astro indian section,malaysian indian singers ,sings and acting like bullshits.no any feeling on them when acting and singing.must changed everythings.dont depending on indias movies and songs.we malaysian indian can make our own movies and songs more quality than india.and also can create more beautiful singers than t.m.s,s.p.b and others so.i feel so sad on this.

TMS is the best ever in tamil film industry's play back singing. he dominated in his career undisputed for over 40 years, yet the indian government did not honour him till recently when he was bestowed upon the padmashree, which is the result of the then President Dr Abdul Kalam. even now it's not too late. a post career recognition may not be unwelcome to him. he in fact brought about a big transformation in his own way from the existing karnatic style. he was emulated or modified by many to make it seem original. TMS is great always, come as many and go as many.
