T-Mobile may have made a few smartphone fans happy when it announced that it will be releasing prepaid Blackberry plans right before the holidays. This marks the first time that any company has offered prepaid Blackberry smartphones in the United States.

This is something we will see a lot more of in the near future, as consumers have started to really open up to the idea of pay as you go plans as viable options. "Postpaid" or contract plans seem to be losing their luster for a lot of customers.

The T-Mobile prepaid Blackberry plans fall under the company's new "T-Mobile Complete" package. Blackberry Curve 8520 is one of the handsets that will work with the plans, which start at $59.99 for the first month of service. Text and data plans start at $50 per month.

There are three other handsets that will work with this plan.

Subscribers can select from several options with the new package, including the T-Mobile Complete Unlimited Talk plan, which costs $50 per month or the Unlimited Talk and Text Plan ($60/month). The third option includes unlimited web browsing in addition to the talk and text and costs $80.

A fourth option comes with 1,000 Whenever Minutes, Unlimited Nights and Weekends and Unlimited T-Mobile-to-T-Mobile calling available, priced at only $50 per month.

Prepaid Phone News and Deals

Many people make the switch to prepaid phone plans in order to save money and have more control of how they use their cell phones.

Smartphones on prepaid plans are a rather new thing, since expensive phones sort of defeat the purpose of prepaid. Still, the market is moving toward more prepaid options and there will be more innovative plans released as time goes by.

T-Mobile prepaid Blackberry service may makes sense for some, however, as long as the savings is there. For instance, the Blackberry Curve 8520 costs around $300, so that seriously eats into any savings you may have on a prepaid plan.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are buying a Blackberry handset, most likely you are going to want unlimited web browsing, and therefore, the more expensive $80 T-Mobile Complete plan. Web browsing is a big part of having a smartphone.

As with any plan, it makes sense to put in the effort and research the different options you have.

Prepaid cell phone plans are really blowing up--which is a good thing, since they put more power in the hands of the consumer.

Another great thing is that there are quite a few wireless companies competing against each other in order to win your business.  TracFone Straight Talk and Boost Mobile are two other companies leading the way to your savings.
