TCA or Trichloroacetic acid is one of the most widely used medical treatments for genital warts. It is a clear liquid that is applied by the doctor to the lesions once a week. Generally, a few weeks of treatments are needed before the warts are completely gone.

After the first application of TCA, the treated genital warts respond by shrinking and turning white. This first application generally causes a stinking that can cause some discomfort to the patient.

If not used properly, TCA can cause the irritation of the skin and may cause mild ulcers in the skin near the treated area. That's why TCA can only be applied by a qualified health care professional.

Using TCA at home :

It is however possible treat genital warts effectively using TCA solution in reduced strengths. When used properly, these types of solutions guarantee good results and are safe so they don't harm the areas of skin near the treated lesions.

An example of these solutions is TCA 50%. It is a genital wart remover marketed by a company named Yvavone and it works also on skin tags, moles and tattoos.
