THE BRIGHTEST STAR
72THE BRIGHTEST STAR
Everyone wants to be the best! Most people do, Its the way we are made up. When we are children we are told we can be anything we want, providing we hop off our rear ends and work towards our goal and never let up . That way we will do very well and reach our goals no matter what.
However, to get to the top of any goal takes a real effort and you only have to look at sport today to see that every one is trying to achieve their personal best, some it comes right away ,others it takes longer. When I see the faces on football players who have lost grand finals ,I feel for them because their goal had not been reached. What they are not seeing is the real reason. They have achieved their personal best at this time and they can look forward to the future to be even better or realise what they have achieved is a lot better than if they had not tried at all.
My mothers poem The Brightest Star shows that even stars try to be their best and I hope you enjoy her poem.
THE BRIGHTEST STAR
The Brightest Star
THE BRIGHTEST STAR
‘I am not very happy this Christmas you know”
Said a little star out the back
“For that star over there with his point in the air
Is taking the shine off my act”.
“I have tried so hard to be the best in the sky
I have twinkled and shone every night
But try as I might, I just can’t get it right
I just may as well turn out the light"
Now God way up there heard the cry of despair
And he wondered if he were able
To light up this star to be seen from afar
And show the wise men into the stable
So he sent down gold dust of the very best kind
And a light to smack on the top
And he commanded all stars from Venus to mars
To turn down their lights to just stop.
So even today when at Christmas we say
Thank god for the birth of your son
We should also recall , how the best star of all
Showed the way to the innocent one
