THE DROP OUT RATE IN CA
46THE DROP OUT
Knowledge is power! So tell me why is it that the High School Drop out Rate has increased over the years? Do children feel like education isn’t as important any more or selling “weed” or “dope” well provide as much money as a high school degree or a college degree? Or is the stress of passing the “biggest test ever”?
In California by law in order to graduate form high school you must pass a test called the CAHSEE. "The CAHSEE helps identify students who are not developing skills that are essential for life after high school and encourages districts to give these students the attention and resources needed to help them achieve these skills during their high school years," the California Department of Education states on its Web site. If you do not pass this test well, it simple you will not graduate with a High School Diploma but a certificate saying you completed 9th to 12th grade.
The test is based on 7th and 8th grade work I have heard many teachers say before. Well what’s so hard about it? You may be asking. When I was in the tenth grade preparing for the test I thought the same thing. “This Should be a piece of cake” until I got my test results. But, my point is that it’s not that easy and students up and down California are not passing this test
