The Genius Lifestyle

Perhaps you are a parent choosing not to homeschool.
Or you are an adult that doesn’t have the time or
inclination to take a Superlearning course. Are
there simple ways for you and your family to jump
start your brains so you can think, learn and work
better in day to day life? Sure!
Here are a few suggestions to work into your normal
routines:
Be sure to eat well, sleep well, drink plenty
of water, and get enough fresh air, sunshine and
moderate exercise. Avoid tobacco, alcohol,
drugs and excessive amounts of caffeine.
Watch far less videos and TV, and read a
lot more.
Play brain enhancing games -- jigsaw,
crossword, number and logic puzzles,
strategy games such as chess, checkers,
and backgammon, card games, and three
dimensional brain teasers such as Rubik’s cube.
Get the classical music habit. Leave it
playing in the background, especially during
study periods.
Play sports.
Draw, paint, or sculpt.
Play one or more musical instruments.
Sing. Even if you make your dog howl!
Try acting or being a clown or a mime.
Get bitten by the writing bug.
Dance. If you don’t go out or have an interested
partner, boogie around the house when no one
is looking!
Try to be ambidextrous. Using both hands,
and both sides of your body equally,
even for short periods of time integrates
both hemispheres of the brain. This leaves
your body relaxed, your mind alert, and your
subconscious mind accessible. This makes your
memory easily accessible, and your inspirational
and intuitive faculties heightened.
Here are a few good suggestions:
Write a grocery list with both handsAlternate hands when chopping vegetables
March in place while you are talking on the phone
Dribble a basketball with alternating hands
Jump rope on your toes, and then hopping, alternating one foot then the other
Walk forward to your mailbox, and backwards up the driveway back to your house, or walk forwards and backwards in the hallways in your home
If you can do it safely, walk one direction with your eyes open, and the return direction with your eyes closed. (I do this in a big field by my house!)
Try writing backwards, alternating hands
Do some very simple Brain Gym movements for one or two minutes
Do some jumping jacks or take a short, brisk walk. Be sure to swing your arms as you are walking.
Talk to yourself! I’m not joking. Psychologists say that self-talk of a
positive nature can be very beneficial.Super genius Tony Buzan recommends it in his book, Buzan’s Book of Genius. Many geniuses, like Mozart and Beethoven were noted for talking to themselves, and even laughing uproariously and out loud during their one sided conversations!
Never stop learning! Learn in other ways, besides from reading books. Try to learn things by trial and error, hands on experience,or imitating others. Have an open mind and a curious attitude for all of your life. It keeps your mind sharp, and may even prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
Surround yourself with humor, and be humorous. What makes us laugh are the ironies or incongruities in a situation. To look for and perceive humor is to see nuances and subtleties. It sharpens your power of observation to be alert to the funny side of life. It also alleviates stress, chases off depression and anxiety and bolsters the immune system.
And last but not least, love others, love life and live it to the hilt!
