A DOGS LIFE
VERNA MAY HICKEY
The poetry works of Verna May Hickey was written by her son Brian (brownlickie) to show the creative side to this wonderful person that children adored. She died on the 02.06.2000 after many years of poor health, and I hope she is looking down from above having a good laugh at the poems she created. Having said that, I hope you enjoy her poetry and leave her feedback that she deserves.
regards brownlickie

A DOGS LIFE
.A dog came over the top of the hill
And he grumbled as he trotted along
The street was as quiet as the dead of the night
And he wondered what had gone wrong.
Once there were so many great things to do
AS a dog only knows how it feels
To be chasing the postie till he falls of his bike
Then nip in for a go at his heels.
And whatever has happened to that cat up the street
He was always good for a laugh
You just lay and wait just inside the gate
And wait for the fool to go past.
That mean looking ginger cat just down the road
With bindis all over his coat
He makes out he’s asleep till you get near his feet
Then leaps up and goes for your throat.
Yes, now life is different not quite the same
You’re just scared to take a deep breath
Its no longer right to fight for your life
And frighten old ladies to death
If you bark in the morning to give master warning
Of a noise, that seem to make sense.
But the mongrel comes out with a curse and a shout
And his boot lift you over the fence.
Yes- may as well face it, the fun is all gone
Best to lay down and sleep like a log
And dream of the days when a dog knew his place
And this place was fit for a dog.
