Rosslyn or Roslin Chapel  (Established 1446) even their own official website spells it in two different ways so here are the two different spellings. It is located a short distance from Edinburgh 30-45 minutes driving time and is easily travelled there and back in one day.   You are probably aware that the Chapel featured in book The Da Vinci Code by the writer Dan Brown  in 2004 and also in the movie in 2006.

It is currently being given a bit of a facelift with the old windows being removed and renovated and quite a lot of work is being done to the roof as a result the internal roof structure is obstructed by scaffolding (unlike my photographs).

As you can see from the photographs I have loaded it has some interesting carvings which amount to hundreds of individual pieces here are just a few with some of my photo’s.

CLICKING ON THE PHOTO WILL GIVE YOU AN ENLARGED VIEW

The Apprentice Pillar

Knight on horseback

The Dance of Death

Lucifer

Musical cubes

The Star of Bethlehem and the Nativity

Angel playing the bagpipes

The Green man.

The Chapel itself is quite intriguing and should easily keep you interested for a long time. As you walk around strange carvings and symbols are all over the place -so if it is intrigue and mystery you want here is the place to visit.

James St Clair-Erskine, 5thEarl of Rosslyn remains the owner and senior member of the Trust which looks after the Chapel.
