EVERYONE'S DOING IT

The Fringe or Bangs as they're sometimes called is the hottest hairstyle this season. Well in Australia it is, it may have been last season's hottest hair-do everywhere else in the world...we've just caught on. All the celebrities are sporting it, J.Lo, Jessica Alba, Misha Barton, Alyssa Milano just to name a few. If you're new to hair experiments or just adverse to them, just remember, it only takes 6-8 weeks to get rid of a fringe. Such a simple thing can dramatically change your look and add finnesse to your face. Go on, do it!!! There are different fringes you can choose from, there are fringes for bold personalities and there are fringes for those of you who want to take it slow.

GOOD BANGS

Choose (with the help of your hairdresser) a fringe that suits your face shape, hair type, hair texture and the rest of your hair style. Fringes highlight eyes so if you have pretty eyes choose one that will really emphasise them - usually a fringe that is cut between the eyebrows and eyelashes. Fringes are made for straight hair but if you have curly or wavy hair, it can still be done, just invest in a straightener. A lot of people with round face shapes will try and avoid fringes like the plague, but if you are one of these people (like me) and you choose the correct fringe it can add structure to your face. Below are some hints for different faceshapes. These are very general, the style has to suit all the other features on your face too.

Square Face: Choose a style that will soften your pronounced facial lines and angles. A whispy side sweeping fringe will usually soften most face shapes. Avoid short blunt fringes, it will emphasis the squareness of your face. Have a look at Jennifer Aniston's fringe

Round Face: Soft, feathered fringes best suits this face shape, a side sweeping fringe will also add the illusion of length. A well cut fringe can add contours to your face, especially if you have fine, sharp features. See Kirsten Dunst's fringe.

Heart Shaped Face: Katie Holmes' new fringe is perfect for her heart shaped face. Those with this shape face are very lucky as most styles will suit them. You guys can carry off long or short fringes and a blunt, full fringe looks great on a heart shaped face.

Oval Face: See Uma Thurman for ideas. She looks fabulous with a fringe (she'll still look fab with no hair). Again, lucky people, this face shape can carry off anything. You guys can have any fringe you feel like. Just watch the hair type and texture.

Long Face: Liv Tyler and Megan Gale sport the classic long face. If you have a long forehead, avoid long fringes, it will look weird. Go for a short textured fringe.  However, if your face is well balanced like Liv Tyler's you can get away with a longer fringe like hers.

Triangular Face: A blunt or longer fringe that is cut close to the cheek bones will balance out your face. See Victoria Beckham for ideas.
