TOP 10 GLOBAL CELEBRITIES
82
These came to my mind first.
There are many Top 10 and Top 100 lists, but these 10 people came to mind for me first. Enjoy and please comment!
Billy Graham
Spiritual advisor to many US Presidents and the world. His crusades have covered most of the earth. Form old time tent revivals to modern day podcasts, his ministry is alone in the extent of its outreach and kind tolerance and dialogue with other faiths.
Drew Carey
Host and star of the two most money-laden game shows in history: Power of 10 and The New Price is Right.
Steve Irwin
I am sorry he's gone, but people still love him or hate him. Therefore, he is still famous.
Pope Benedict XVI
Pope Jon Pall II's watchdog and succeeding pope. He ruffles feathers, but sticks to his guns and also apologizes when necessary.
This pope went form being a rules enforcer to an evangelist for the friendship of Christ. He has become the more openly declared "friend of God" referred to in the Old Testament where it speaks of Abraham. Benedict's book Jesus of Nazareth asks people to form and grow a living relationship with Jesus Christ, Son of God.
Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama
Still in exile in Tibet for over 57 years, working to free Tibet.
Oprah Winfrey
Among her many philanthropic activities, Oprah Winfrey invested $40 million establishing the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls near Johannesburg, South Africa in January, 2007. Nelson Mandela nominated her for Time's Top 2100 people for her 5th naming to that list and praised her for overcoming a disadvantaged youth in rural poverty.
Jackie Chan
Chop-socky star from Hong King, Jackie Chan has elevated the martial arts movie genre to a respectable position around the globe. His added comedy and vulnerability are evident in each film. The great martial arts parody movies like Legend reinforce this enjoyment of Mr. Chan in all of his movies.
George W. Bush
US President famous because so many people hate him and so many defend him. There is so much commotion over his administration that I can no longer make any decisions about him art all. I need a vacation. I would like to go to Sri Lanka and talk to Arthur C. Clarke, the author of 2001 a Space Odyssey. He moved to a place where the number one mode of transportation is the bicycle. I should have done the same.
The No Child Left Behind Act, under George W. Bush, attempted to close the gap between rich and poor students in academic testing and help low-performing schools, but has not been successful. Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy has stated that he feels that the tragedy lies in the fact that educational reforms were put into place without enough funding. In truth, the pressure in placed upon teachers of under-forming classrooms. They more and more often use their own money to purchase supplies and such and still lose raises - and sometimes their jobs - because their students did not meet the goals for standardized testing. The teachers' unions across America are in an uproar over this. After-school programming towards enrichment in mathematics, reading. and the sciences has actually produced no significant positive effects either concerning low-performing school some individual students have made gains. President Bush increased funding for the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health early in his presidency, and created education programs to strengthen the grounding in science and mathematics for American high school students and their teachers in the form of professional development. However, funding did not keep pace with inflation in 2004 and 2005, and was actually cut in 2006. This was the first cut of this sort in 36 years.
This is the tip of the iceberg of programs and policies that can be criticized by other political parties and the world. At this juncture, it seems as though Bush is blamed for everything, and that is making him more well-known.
Al Gore
Former US Vice President and investigator into Global Warming and world climate change. Nobel Peace Prize Winner.
People argue back and forth over global warming, evoution, space exporation, etc. It all makes Al Gore more famous.

Bill and Hillary Clinton
A former US President and his wife, the first woman actually to have a good chance at becoming President of the USA. Sharon Osborne with her trademark honesty and pluck would be a good running mate.

How wonderful for you to meet him! Some pundits say that the world has no heroes any longer, but I think that we do.

Dear Patty: Lovely hub. Wanted to share with you that I had the privilege of sitting at HH the Dalai Lama's feet when he visited Miami a few years ago. His presence is at once gentle and powerful. I tried to kiss his hand as we were leaving the room, but he cheerfully waved me away. I asked a friend why that had happened and she explained that his sense of humility did not call for that type of reverence.
