TS Today
Oh do I dare,
Disturb the universe?
Others have done so
When I have not
Others have wandered
Into what I’ve sought
But in today’s grimy days
Of polished floors and sleek steel
All glass walls and time to kill
We slowly kill us all
For that yellow fog that once crept upon the wall
And licked the chimneys,
Prowled the streets
Is now a new type of smoke; desperate but clean
And when you lay there on my bed
And ask me what it is I’ve said
All I may respond is this;
That is not it at all, that is not what I meant, at all
While history creeps and subtly glides into today,
We forget and live in our own day and age
History is dead unless we lived within it
And thus we tap out a hollow sentence
For those after us to read our transcript
Today, today
You are either with the system, or against it
But that is not it at all, that is not what I mean, at all
Those who attempt to live outside the system are crushed
Either by the system, or themselves
In trying to escape this ‘system’ we ponder,
We end up escaping this life we wander
And do nothing of what we set out to
A great revolution could be time for change
But small happenings make the difference
And when that whore upon my bed,
Speaking of history long since dead
May ask, do I dare disturb the universe?
My only response is that I do so dare
To disturb my own
I think not of systems, or where I fit
Of the cold, gliding suffocation of this ages bit
But of my own life, and what I wish,
Of love and death and the sorrows of it
And I dare oh I dare!
To disturb the universe
