What is the digital transition?
The digital transition in the gradual switch from analog and digital television signals to 100% digital television signals. The transition is to to happen in several phases with the first happening in February of 2009. At this time the government will require all full power television stations to shut down there analog television signals and begin broadcasting in digital only. The second phase will happen sometime in 2011 and will require all cable companies to only transmit digital cable to digital ready TVs. This will basically be the end of analog cable and analog satellite TV.
How will the DTV transition affected me?
If you have an older analog TV it will no longer work for over the air broadcasts off the February 17th, 2009 transition. After this time you will either have to subscribe to satellite, cable, or purchase a TV converter box to continue watching TV. Of course you can also buy a new television that is equipped with a digital tuner of some sort.
How do I know if my TV is analog?
If you TV was made before 2004 there is a very good chance it is analog. Check our owners manual to see if your TV has a digital tuner. If there isn't a digital tuner then it is analog. You can also call your manufacturer to check.

A converter box is a small book shaped box that hooks into your analog TV to keep it working after the digital transition. Converter boxes are very small and are very easy to hook up.
