An advert on UK television ( ‘Bike Round for Hovis’ see Youtube link) directed by respected film director Sir Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner and of course Hannibal) currently directing the ‘NUMB3RS’ programme was made in 1973 and was voted the best advert of all time on UK television.

It was decided in 2008 to do a re-vamp of the advert and to show how British culture has changed and developed over the past 122 years. It was to feature many events well known in the Uk but also abroad as well.

It was decided to make the advert run over 120 seconds and would feature many of the most well known news stories of the era and would be instantly recogniseable anybody who has been on the planet for more than 10 minutes.

Among the events portrayed are

the sinking of the Titanic - 1912,

the rise of the Suffragettes movement - 1905 -1913,

World War 1 with soldiers marching off to war 1914-1918,

The Blitz 1939 -1945,

Winston Churchill’s fight them on the beaches speech 1939-1945,

our present Queen Elizabeth ll Coronation -street party -1952 ,

England win the Football World Cup -1966

the miners strike and 1984-1985,

the Millenium fireworks in 2000.

The young male actor changes appearance as the advert unfolds and we see his appearance updating to the various time periods he is living in.
