If you're just heard the phrase 'Tag and Ping' and scratching your head in puzzlement --- this hub may be worth your time. Not that Tag and Ping is some magic marketing formula that will deliver untold riches. It won't.

It is just one more marketing tool professional online marketers are using to give their site or sites a competitive edge over their competition. It will help put your site on the Internet map and if done right, Tag and Ping will deliver plenty of very targeted traffic to your sales pages. It will boost your rankings and increase your sales.

Tag and Ping is one of those simple, yet relatively unknown marketing techniques savvy Internet Marketers have been using and trying to keep quiet for years. To truly understand how Tag and Ping works, you will have to know some basic background information on keywords, blogging, tags, and how all these can work in sync to deliver traffic, links and sales to your site.

What is tagging?

What exactly are tags? Simply put, tags are keywords. In the same way you can stick labels on physical objects, you can use tags to label digital 'things' such as blog posts, photos, and web links. Once you assign one or more tags to a certain object, you can easily find it later by looking up everything tagged with a particular keyword. You can also assign multiple tags to the same object, and different people can assign different tags to the same resource

What Is Pinging?

A 'Ping' is a basic Internet program that lets you verify that a

particular Internet address exists and can accept requests.

The verb ping means the act of using the ping utility or

command.

Pinging in the blog world means different, but still similar.

There are certain services that scans blog regulary for updates

and publishes the recently updated blogs (for an example).

So once you've updated your blog, you should let such a

service know that you have your blog has peen updated.

for this, you send a PING to the service. Most of the blog

software have the ability to ping on their own.

But pinging a dozen such services could be time consuming.

A blog ping is just a piece of text, in simple words. It'll contain

your blog name and the url. It is usually prepared in the

XML format. The servers that accept ping have special

programs for accepting and processing these 'XML pings'.

This is accomplished via RSS Feeds-Really Simple Syndication is a popular technology for notifying users of updates to content in a website, blog, or Internet TV channel.

Pinging Services

There are three methods I've found that can be used to notify a number of services at once and one works automatically once set up. These are to be used when you make a new entry to your blog or hub.

The first is pingomatic and you fill in these fields select the services to want to notify and hit enter

Blog Name:

Blog Home Page

RSS URL (optional):

The next is pingoat again you can fill the same info and hit enter-Caution ONLY USE ONE OF THESE SERVICES OTHERWISE IT CAN BE CONSIDERED SPAM AND YOU CAN BE BANNED!!!

Blog Name

Blog URL

XML feed (optional)

The last and easiest to use is feedburner once you get

signed up and setup yur feed got publicize and click on

pingshot and activate it . Once you do then anytime you make

a new entry a ping will be automaically sent out.

    - A blog (short for weblog) is a personal online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs are defined by their format: a series of entries posted to a single page in reverse-chronological order. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or reflect the purpose of the Web site that hosts the blog. Topics sometimes include brief philosophical musings, commentary on Internet and other social issues, and links to other sites the author favors, especially those that support a point being made on a post. The author of a blog is often referred to as a blogger. Many blogs syndicate their content to subscribers using RSS, a popular content distribution tool - 2 years ago

Yes it will but it's best in using an articles within a blog as content. You can then use feedburner and have you blog tagged and pinged automatically when you make a new entry. it's a lot more effective using it this way.
