You considered your theme, your interests, your fiancé's interests, and your family traditions. You poured over catalogs, visited boutiques and browsed catalogs online. Finally, you found them: the unique wedding favors. It's over now... right? Wrong! Please don't just toss those wine corks into a basket. Favors are a wonderful opportunity to express your individuality, as well as your gratitude toward your guests.

The simplest way to embellish a wedding favor is with a tag. You can have tags printed by a professional, or create them yourself using a desktop publishing program. Tags should be no larger than a business card, but large enough to hold all of the information you're planning to communicate. Remember that you will need a space at the top to punch a hole.

Most couples want to print their names and wedding date on their favor tags. However, you can reduce that to a monogram if you'd like. You may choose to replace it with a message of thanks, such as, "Thank you for attending our wedding. Your support means so much to us." Of course, the length of your message depends on the space available on your tag.

If you are at a loss for words, try adapting a famous quote, song lyric, or piece of poetry to suit your situation. This is especially effective if your theme revolves around your special song or a concept, such as "together forever." Try searching online quote sites to find a line that speaks to you. Don't forget to include the author's name.

A final element to a favor tag is artwork. You can choose not to have artwork, and to use a special font instead. However, if you want a picture, choose carefully. Some images can be faded and placed behind text to make a layered look. Others interfere with reading and therefore must be shrunk and placed behind, above or below your words. Because a tag is so small, simplicity is key. A single blossom, bird or heart pattern, or a pen stroke flourish, are best.

Once your tags are printed, cut to size, and hole-punched, you can attach them to your favor. Thread a length of ribbon through the tag. If your favor has a loop, such as a corkscrew's handle, it has a natural place to attach the tag. If not, choose a narrow spot where the ribbon will not slide. Tie the bow carefully, so the tag does not tear. If your ribbon will not stay in place, consider adding a temporary adhesive dot. You can find these in craft and scrapbook stores.

Finding the perfect favor is only half the fun. Adding your own personal touch really creates a mood of thanks and celebration. A simple tag is perhaps the easiest and most versatile way to do this, and can be finished in a relatively short time. Remember that your guests are not here for your favors; they are here for you. A personal message reminds them of what that means to you.
