Taking the Scenic Route
53Going places by car
I think being on the road is romantic. I also think the best way to travel the Continental U.S. is by car. You get to see so much that you would miss by plane on the way to your destination. You get to meet people on the way there.
I always ask friends where there's a good place to go. Other times I just get in the car with a bag and just follow the road. I see a lot this way.
Recently I drove to Washington, D.C. I got some nice pictures of The Capitol. I also have pictures of the front of the White House. It's very nice in the area surrounding the National Mall.
As I was passing through to Baltimore I only got to sightsee. I'm planning a travel to Virginia soon. I'm carving out time in my itinerary for the stop. I'm absolutely fascinated with the area.
I get to travel a lot of my own state, New York, and the neighboring states. I drove to Mohegan Lake for some gambling and spent a few days in Atlantic City gambling last month. I recommend Roulette at either the Trump or the Tropicana. I did the best gambling at Tropicana repeatedly.
I have to say my first, and so far my only, visit to Mohegan Lake I wasn't impressed. Roulette was blasé, not much of a gambling experience. I will try to see the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. But, I will go again.
I intend on going to Foxwoods before I head over to Mohegan Sun. I want to see what the tables are like over there. I will follow-up and let readers know about it.
I've been trying to head over to Bear Mountain. I want to hike the Appalachian Trail. I was there before and it was so peaceful & quiet. I think it's a perfect place for writing.
I travel by car every chance I get. I feel closer to the people the places the experience. The scenic route is the only way to go.

When Lynn drives ( my husband...) you need to get out of the car when he says "I know a shortcut." His last shortcut added 5 hours -- turning a 5 hour drive into a 10 hour drive as we went over, down and around and around a high mountain to get to Eureka Springs. He is FAMOUS for taking the "scenic route." LOL
great hub...brought back many memories.

I like travelling too, but I'm lazy driving. Usually I pack my camera and take some pictures and share them with some friends. Nice hub!

Hi Melantha,
I share your pleasure in driving. I have driven across country, from the East Coast where I live, clear out to the West Coast. I was gone for six weeks and saw some amazing things. I would love to do it again, however, with our economy in such dire straits, I doubt it will happen.
As a child growing up, my family took me and my brother every other year out to OK to visit relatives, then on to CA, and back home via Texas. Lots of nice memories from those trips as well.
Thanks for sharing,
Trish
