Common Problems With Night Portraits

I am sure you will sometimes feel vex when that your night portrait shots are not as good as you wanted it to be.

Usually you will observe that the subject is properly exposed by the flash while the background is in pitch dark! Viewers in this case will not be able to figure out where this photograph is being taken.

One example of this common problem is shown in the photograph below.

What Caused This Problem?

This problem arises when the shutter speed is too fast to capture the lighting emitted from the background. At the same time, your flash from your camera is not strong enough to reach and illuminate your background.

How To Take Night Portraits Like A Professional?

There are many ways to overcome this problem and produce results like a professional as shown in the photography below.

One of the ways is to set your flash selection to "Slow Sync Flash". Set your camera to Aperture Priority with aperture between F4 to F8 (your preference). ISO in this case need not be high.

And there you go! Its that simple. Try it out now!
