Fainting Goats, National Geographic

If I Knew Then, What I Know Now...

I'd have questioned first, and fainted later. I'm not prone to panic, and as a woman of few phobias, I get along in a crisis. You know me by now, right?

Besides, the last time I passed out was not my fault. I was simply trying trying to get something off the top shelf in my closet. My husband was right there, moving around, getting dressed, totally NOT helping.

I reached up to get a cord with that little black box on the end, what's it called? Lynn says it's a convertor box, I think. Some of them are big, and I have proof they're heavy, especially when they hit you between the eyes at 60 miles an hour from 3 feet above. Like this one did.

I don't remember falling to the floor. Lynn tells me I did that very gracefully, but he could be just saying that to save my ego. I do remember hearing him say "Marisue" about 20 times. I heard it, but I couldn't respond, probably because my eyes were busy looking at the back side of my head, which is not pretty by the way. Eyes control the hearing and the tongue, you know. They all work together unless you've fainted.

Anyway, the whole passing out thing only took about 25 seconds out of the day and it's barely worth mentioning. The only reason I brought it up was to show you how strong spirited I am and it takes a lot to knock me out. I had a black eye for 2 weeks, a purple eye for 1 week and a pink and yellow one for a month. it was no big deal, really. Before you start thinking I'm a three-eyed lady, it was all the same eye.

Being a cop''s wife gave me plenty of opportunity to practice not fainting. I became very good at it, except for the first time. I was 25, and pregnant and Lynn forgot to change clothes. I mean, most cops would know at least to do that before they came home at 2:00a.m., one would think.

For the rest of the story, read about the questions a cop's wife asks before fainting.
