Tales of a Bookaholic III: Finding Yard Sale Books for Eccentric, Eclectic and Normal Readers in the Book Store
56Finding yard sale books in a book store
Ever gone to a yard sale that is offering books for sale? There you will find the odd, the unwanted, the "why are you selling these books?" I decided to put a yard sale search to the task at my local B&N. After having spent almost three hours and two Starbucks white chocolate mocha coffees later, here are my favorites. If you are wondering, yes, I did buy the majority of them!
The Zen of Zombie
Better Living Through the Undead by Scott Kenemore
This is a must-have for anyone in your life who loves Zombies. Quoted from book jacket: "Zombies aren't afraid of life, so why should you be..." "Reanimate yourself for success with advice of life, love, and work from the undead!" "Includes the 24 habits of highly effective zombies!" (BOUGHT IT)
Odd Jobs 101 Ways to Make An Extra Buck by Abigail R. Gehring
Ms. Gehring, according to the book's jacket is an editor and freelance writer who has also been a dancer, tattoo artist, a "Cinderella" and has held twenty-four of the jobs she talks about in the book. "a unique resource for anyone looking to earn extra money moonlighting or to break free of the nine-to-five grind." Some of the jobs are Kayak Tour Guide, Lipstick Reading, and Vacuum Dust Sorter. Each job is broken down into specifics: What You Do, What You Get, What It Costs, What You Need, Perks, Downsides, and Sites to Check Out.
(BOUGHT IT. IT'S TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES)
Ouija Answer Book printed by Sterling Innovations
This is the "just like the Board Game, but in book form." This thick little book's pages are printed with letters of the alphabet, numbers, and includes Yes and No, Maybe, and No/ Good-bye. You think really hard on your question, then start opening pages. As you do, you have to write down what letters, etc. are on the page. Then, you decipher the answer. I had a Quija Board all the way through my college years. I thought cool and tried it.
Here are the questions I asked. Will I become a successful writer, When will I become a successful writer, and is being a successful writer in my future. The answers? Y/Z, E/F, O/R. H/I, G/H, B/C, W/X. The ultimate blow to my writer's ego? NO/GOOD-BYE. (DID I BUY IT? NO/GOOD-BYE)
F My Life It's funny, it's true, except when it happens to you by Maxine Valette, Guillaume Passaglia, Didier Guedj. People contributed to the website from all over the world.
From the jacket: "Spanning everything from ironic twists of fate to downright shameful moments." I literally could not stop laughing reading these unfortunate incidents. We have all been there when we say or do something we wish we hadn't or it was said toward you.
Here is one story: Today, after I had been looking for my cell phone for 2 days, I realized that the vegetable compartment in the fridge was vibrating.
This is my own which just happened: After a long day of supervising P.E. events for a middle school can-a-thon for a local food bank, I said to my assistant principal(male) "I feel like I have just run a marathon." His reply: You look like you just ran a marathon. (DIDN'T BUY IT. I READ IT IN THE STORE BECAUSE I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN)
Finally, books just for sheer literary joy, to make you smile, and think.
