Tall Tub Dishwashers Are Better

Tall Tub Dishwashers

Recently dishwasher manufacturers have increased the top to bottom measurement of the dishwasher interiors by changing the configuration of the mechanical system for pumping water underneath the dishwasher liner.  They have also either diminished or altogether eliminated the bottom panel.  This gives a sleeker look on the outside, especially when it is combined with hidden controls.  The taller tub has allowed some manufacturers to increase the number of racks from two to three.  Most manufactuers simply give the consumer more height for each of the racks which is a plus because plates have gotten bigger more people are using larger wine glasses at home.  Some repairmen have expressed concern about the new mechanical configuration.

I put one of these in our kitchen a couple of years ago, a GE Triton XL. The extra height is nice for tall items. Installation, however, is quite a bit tougher than a regular unit. Be prepared to spend extra time making the hookups in the limited space under the unit.
