Tattoo Art Portfolio Tips

Putting together a tattoo portfolio is essential if you want to get your work out there and viewed by other tattooists, tattoo collectors and people who want a unique tattoo, because ideally you want to sell your work that you have spent hours drawing, so you need to present it to others in the form of professional samples in an easily viewable portfolio case which you can turn the pages like a book.

You shouldn't really make this tattoo collection anything complicated really as all you are doing is putting your best tattoo flash sheet samples in a book type format for others to view, so I would buy an A3 size portfolio with a ring binder at the centre to hold your tattoo sheets and also laminate them too, so that they are flexible enough but they also remain protected from people thumbing through your collected work.

Obviously though an online portfolio is needed too, so that you can also show your work to tattoo artists around the world and build your name as a top tattoo designer, you can easily do this with a blog and upload good clear photos scanned in through your computer and your portfolio will always be online for as long as you want and you can add to it or take old stuff down and put new tattoo art up, so that it remains fresh for other people to look at.

A few tattoo portfolio ideas

Do some mix and match designs - A5, A3 and A4 size flash sheets can all be put in your portfolio and ordered according to size, smallest first and A3 last, because you want to leave a lasting impression in your physical portfolio binder.

Have a few different themed sets - Different styles of tattoos can show others that you can draw a variety of tattoo art and also may be of interest to others by actually seeing the proof that you can draw tattoos on request or as you have collected them.

A quick Contents page - An index page of some sort right at the beginning, detailing what art you have inside your art portfolio.

Link or display your alternate online portfolios web address - By showing the web address for your online portfolio you are directing others from your actual portfolio binder to there and you could provide different tattoo samples so that you show a good amount of tattoo art in both places.

Always sign and date your work - Signing your work is recommended which is obvious, but it also helps to identify if anyone knocks off your work and tries to pass them off as their own or illegal copies which may replace your signature with their own, of course you can't stop, but you would be able to recognize if anyone has tried to steal and sell your tattoo work.

Use computer software to colour your art - This makes it professional and more appealing to purchase from the buyers perspective, so by using Photoshop or Gimp, you can create expert looking tattoo art that would fit nicely in any tattoo shop.

Whatever the case with your tattoo portfolios, just make them professional looking and with varied designs so that you can show a good few styles throughout your portfolio book.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go and draw them designs now and get your online and offline portfolios created now!
