When a person wishes to rid himself of an old tattoo, the duration of the tattoo removal process often depends on the kind of tattoo removal technique he employs as well as how well his body reacts to these procedures. There are a lot of procedures that can be used to remove a tattoo and these include invasive and non-invasive techniques that can either be painful or relatively painless, depending again on the technique being employed. There are a few rather old methods for removing tattoos that are still being used today, like excision, salibration, saline injections and dermabrasion. The newer techniques include light technology that uses lasers and intense pulsed light machines to remove these skin art from a person’s body.

The time it takes for a tattoo removal process to be declared successful often depends on the kind of method you use. For example, the excision method that is used for smaller tattoos can be finished real fast. This can easily be done and over with as soon as the tattoo is removed from the skin along with the skin it is on and the sutures are closed and healing begins. Saline injections can also take only a few moments with the saline solution simply being injected into the skin where the tattoo is. The results however may take a bit of time and may require a few return visits to really fade out the ink that is under the skin. Dermabrasion and salibrasion may also require a few return trips to the doctor or dermatologist performing the procedure to get the tattoo to totally disappear from your skin.

When you are considering any of the two latest tattoo removal procedures that are available to you, the tattoo removal process also takes a bit of time but no skin is sacrificed unlike the abrasive and skin removal techniques mentioned above. When you opt for laser tattoo removal, you will be getting the ink under your skin broken down by the laser that is used by a licensed laser technician to remove you tattoo with. The ink that is broken down is then flushed out of your system by the natural healing process of your body. This then means that the success of your tattoo removal procedure is dependent on how well your body flushes out these broken down ink particles in your skin. This process may take a few weeks to a few months in a few return sessions, depending on the size of your tattoo as well.

The IPL procedure or Intense Pulsed Light tattoo removal procedure also works around the same premise as laser tattoo removal but just uses a different kind of medium to break down the ink in your skin. The flushing out of the ink from your body is also dependent on how well your immune system reacts to this process and a few trips to the clinic that does this process might be needed to help you totally remove the tattoos that you want erased from your skin. The IPL procedure is said to be a bit more painless than the laser removal choice however you can opt for local anesthesia to be used when you do the laser procedure if you wish to have a relatively painless experience with it.
