Tax Folk Tale for First Graders.

Today we are going to talk about Taxes. You are just a little people, but not for long. Nothing in life is more certain than Death and Taxes. Is time to learn about second topic – the inevitable: taxes.

This short fable will teach you everything you need to know about it.

There were 10 men, who lunched together every day at same time, same place.

They were always charged $ 100 and they agreed to pay for their lunch same way how they pay taxes. Therefore first four man, the poorest ones did not pay at all, Fifth man paid $ 1, Sixth $ 3, Seventh $ 7, Eight $ 12, Ninth $ 18 and Tenth one, the richest paid $ 59. This way it went for years and nobody complained. Till …..

One day the restaurant owner offered a discount to his regular and loyal customers. Instead paying $ 100, they were to pay now only $ 80. But how to divide $ 20 they now saved? If they would simply divided 20 dollars by ten, even first four man, who never paid a penny for their lunch would actually received extra money.

Restaurant owner suggested to his customers to split saved money the way they pay for their lunch.

He calculated their new contribution to cheaper lunch as this:

Fifth man will pain nothing for his lunch same as first Four man 100 % saving for this man.

Sixth man instead $ 3 is going to pay only $2 – 33% saving.

Seventh man will pay $ 5 instead $ 7 – 28 % less than before and Eight man now pays $ 9 compared to $ 12 a that is 25 % saving.

Ninth man $ 14 from $ 18 – saving 22 %.

Tenth man, the richest one is going to pay $ 49 instead his previous share of $ 59.

Everyone is going to be better off than before and first five men instead four can now eat  for free.

Surprisingly not everybody was actually happy with this calculation.

"So I am going to get only $ 1 back ? " yelled sixth man and pointed on the richest man a continued: " and this one is going to get full 10 bucks"? "Absolutely" joined in fifth man," I am saving only $1, but he whole $ 10 !" That is true " set seventh man, "So for him 10 dollars and for me only two ?"

"And what about us !" , First Four start to shout "Nothing for us ? How come? That is not right ! As always nothing for us: poor !!"

All nine men attacked the tenth man and beat him up.

Next day the richest one did not show up at lunch table. They were still very upset with him, so they did not mind.

They finished their lunch and when the bill comes, they put their share together; well: There was not enough to pay for half of the cost.

That is the way in which is tax system working. Like it or not, there is many nice restaurants where to go for lunch.
