Introducing Music to Children
Not all children are loyal to one style of music. Do you ever wonder how some children and teenagers of today, can listen to a variety of music across the board?
I can safely say that I grew up on music that was , well, in my tween and teen days, old ‘fogey’ tunes but some of it was actually nice and today can be found in my own music files. It is this very exact method that as a parent, I exposed my own children to a variety of personal favorite tunes.
Yes, father is included also. Today my sons are quite awesome guitar players and get compliments from many music stores when they decide to go browsing guitars. They sit and start playing something or other and have amazed many music store staff and got applauded by strangers. This skill is due to their parents encouraging the boys to learn guitar from their father. After all, parents must take responsibility for teaching their children or not.
Psychology studies have done a few experiments that require further research but their findings on the effects of some types of music have shown a higher intelligence and soothing effect on humans and even on plants. Very strange. Can you visualize a plant turned away from metal music ? or leaning towards soft jazz ? Experiments revealed this odd behavior of plants though.
Exposure to music whether learning to play a instrument or sing has been found to have a over all effect on behavior, intelligence, pain threshold and health. It is good practice to teach children about the varieties of music available as it will promote their own individuality and personal well being. We all learn at different rates and music gives our brains quite a good work out.

A theory suggests that situations such studying requires use in the very left-brain and music stimulates the intuitive, creative right brain so input can be integrated into the whole process of learning. Playing music occupies your right brain while concentrating on left-brain activities.
I have compiled a few videos of which my own children have been exposed to over the years and will let you imagine the long term effects of their exposure to these musical varieties. Read related--> here and there.

Comments and Thoughts
Hi WC, yes, music is a whole other language that can be shared and differentiate us yet simultaneously bring us together, or not for some I guess, lol. Thank you for sharing your comments and visiting. :)
Learning to read and play music is excellent exercise for developing brains. Thank you, Dame Scribe
Hi Tom, I agree that teaching our children today prepares them for the future. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and visiting. :)
When I was younger I loved Elvis, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys, etc. My sister and I would go through the stacks of 45s my parents had.
I still remember asking my sister "Sissy..the record is done, how do I rewind it?!" haha...
..at about 12 I began getting into White Zombie, Metallica, Front242..etc.
Today I still listen to quite the variety of music. As long as it's complex and full of layers, it's beautiful to me.
Hi Oscillationatend, I agree and probably could say, variety is the spice of life, lol. Music is calming to the Soul for the busy, :) thank you for sharing your comment and visiting.

Soft classical music can soothe the soul while heavy metal can get you pumped up. Music can take you on a short journey as well. This hub is well put together and reminded me of why I love music. My children are musically bilingual as well.
