Teak Furniture
64Furniture that is made from wood has a certain appeal that captures the hearts of many. Woods such as Cedar, teal and cypress make great outdoor furniture due to their strong weather and insect resistant properties. Teak is an especially fine material and is used in marine applications and by the finest furnature craftsmen.
Teak is my favorite type of wood due to the above stated qualitues and becasue of its beautiful color and tones. Clean teak wood is very warm and rich in color. If you let teak age it turns a light grey color over time.
Teak furniture works indoors and outdoors. Many high quality bedroom furniture pieces are avialable on the market today. Bed room sets that have the bed and a pair of matching side tables are a popular choice.
Teak furniture is all about quality and beauty. Teak is a high end natural material and the quality of the furniture made from it usually matches with superior craftmanship and construction. Due to this the price for teak furniture tends to be rather high and can cost twice for a similar piece made from cedar.
Teak Patio Furniture
Teak is a fantastic material for outdoor patio furniture. Not only is it very durable, it is a very gorgeous material. Due to these qualities, it is a high end material and teak patio furniture carries a high end price with it as well. You can buy teak patio furniture sets that usually come with a dining table and chairs, or a conversation set that has lower seating and a coffee table to center the set.
Individual teak outdoor furniture pieces can be found it almost any configuration that you are looking for. In addition to the common chiars and garden benches, there are many accessories that can be found in teak to compliment the rest of your furniture. One good example is a teak patio umbrella. The material for the pole and the fabric supports are made from teak and these team market umbrellas will compliment any outdoor teak furniture very well.
Cleaning Outdoor Teak Furniture
Teak wood will naturally age to a nice silver gray color. If you want to maintain the original clean wood tones then you will need to maintain your furniture with an anuual cleaning and oiling.
Oil will make your teak wood look new and shinny, but it doesn;t really add to the longevity of the teak furniture. Be sure to get oil specifically for outdoor use. The first step is to clean the teak furniture with mild soap and water and then to let it dry completely. Follow the directions for the oil that you purchased. This will typically mean applying the oil with a paintbrush, letting it dry and then wiping off an excess oil.
Regular cleaning thoughout the year with mild soap and water is a smart idea even if you aren't going to oil your furniture..
