I have been with Hub pages for the last 17 months and this is my 400th hub
(Hoorraay, I am moving to the Hall of Fame). I receive plenty of fan mails
(friendship/love requests..thanks boys!) and emails from fellow hubbers and
newbies who ask plenty of questions on earnings, traffic, referrals and
signups.

Well, I try to answer every one of the email that I receive with
utmost diligence, but sometimes I get annoyed by the tone of the email and
rudeness with which the questions are framed. I am happy to share them as
one big hub for everyone’s benefit. I appreciate the help from my other hub authors from whom I learnt immensely. My gratitude and thanks to every one of the hub writers and my fans who encourage me to write more informative hubs.

I believe that there are three laws that govern the art of money making online/offline.
They are:

1. Spend it; then you will earn

The secret of creating wealth, I understand is this – if you want to earn
money you need to spend it first. You need to spend it on learning
materials; you need to invest your time and efforts to try different things.
When you help others to earn their living, you consciously help others to
give you money. This is more so true in the economic downturn. Unless you
spend, you won’t get paid.

 
2. Work as if you don’t expect anything

Do not expect anything at first. Start working. Do not worry if you don’t
know anything. You will learn as you go. All the mistakes that you do will
teach you to go further towards your goal. Nothing is ever lost or wasted.
Think of this way, you go to work at someplace, will they offer you a
monthly salary even before you work? I bet NO unless your employer is some
weirdo. You get paid after you finish working. Why do you expect the other
way when you work online? When you chase excellence, you will be rewarded
with all the money and fame that you wanted.
 

3. Give back to the community; teach others

This is the well-understood principle that every good rich person teaches
and practises. Give a portion of your wealth back to the community. Either
through money to a charity organisation or sharing your knowledge to others
who would like to follow your footsteps. Because, someone helped you to
become rich (you are richer than the people who are poorer than you, if that
makes any sense).

This is by far the most asked question by my fans and fellow hubbers. Honestly speaking, it varies a lot depending on the traffic, but on an average it would be something like $1000 a month. That’s it. You may think that is low or high depending on your interest and observations.

But, that’s how much I earn using hub pages alone. From Adsense alone, I
earn $450+ a month and from affiliate sales, I earn the remaining $550 a
month. Knowing a target like that might pull your earning capacity down. You
may think, ‘Oh, investing 17 months and nearly 400 hubs, Shailini earns only
this much?’ and give up writing hubs. But, the earnings are incremental
compared to the writing efforts I put in. To start with, I put in lot of
efforts and time to create traffic to my hub pages and earned almost nothing
for the first 6 months. At one tipping point, it changed; I started earning
regardless of  how much time and efforts I put in. The earnings continuously

Writing for hub pages is one way that I earn money. I earn a major share of
my revenue by marketing products such as ebooks, websites and other digital
contents. I have briefly shown you how you also can do it in the hubs that are on the right-hand-side links.



I have diversified my income streams over the last few years and I am glad I
did that. If you are struck with one stream of income, you might get annoyed
with the online world. The advantage with the online world is that there are
no entry barriers. Anyone can start doing the thing that you do (copy you).
So, you need to constantly lookout for money making opportunities. One
person alone cannot do all the things, so embrace others who will help you
and both of you can share the profits. I also plan to create more ebook
products on various topics. So, if you are an author and can think of an

Although I have written many tips on creating traffic, I didn’t do much to
create traffic in the first 12 months. All I wanted to do was to write more
hubs. I thought traffic would take care of itself. Some of the photo
galleries I created earlier on helped to get the first-time visitors but
other content-rich hubs glued them to my hub page stream so they would come
back for more. Without your repeat visitors, you cannot build your online
empire.

 

After I created hubs of diverse topics,  I started interlinking hubs with
each other. My hubs will always have “Related Hubs” capsule that will
showcase best of my hubs. You may wonder what is so special about it but,
such capsules are actually Text capsules and each of my hub URL contained
the tracker code. So, whether I am linking to my hub or someone else’s hub,
I would include the tracker code in it. Tracker codes help you to earn
referral traffic from hub pages. So, the more people they click on your
tracker codes, the more traffic you will get from hub pages.

I will start with why I created so many photo galleries first. Pictures
instantly attract eyeballs; pictures of pretty women for sure, attract and
keep more eyeballs. I started showcasing some of my friend’s photo
collections of their favourite actors, models on the web. I presented long hubs with full view pictures (instead of slide shows or tiny thumb nails).

I chose and published only the best
quality pictures and the ones I didn’t have any copyright issues with them.
If a photo had water mark on it, I simply didn’t choose to publish. For
sure, the picture galleries gave me the good start that I needed; they set
up a platform on which I could build my hub pages success. Without traffic,
I would have never been noticed.

I know there are plenty of hubbers who just publish picture galleries and
expect to create a monthly cash flow.

*Picture galleries do not earn you money.*

When viewers look at photos, their eyes turn blind towards any
accompanying text ads. So, they miss seeing them and obviously they don’t
click them and so you won’t get any money from Adsense. Write text-rich content, if you want to make real money!

Yes and No. If you are ready to believe that you can make money online and
work without worrying about the outcome, you can make money. You can really
make lots of money. If you doubt it, do your work half-heartedly, you won’t
be able to earn money. If you want to get started, I would advise to choose
a profession that gives immense pleasure to you regardless of the income.

Some people like writing – no matter if they receive money or not, they
would be happy to write articles on various topics. Some people blog without
expecting anything in return. Some people like photographing. Some people
like talking. If you like the activity that you are doing, it would help you
to survive the first few months of drought when you may not get any income.
If you don’t like the job that you do, you will not survive the initial
stage.

The online world has plenty of opportunities. Everyone who ventures into it
can really make money. It is like an ocean, there are plenty of fish if you
get out and go looking for it. Of course, there is NO FREE LUNCH.

what it is and learn about hub pages and most likely they would end up
signing up for Hub Pages.

So far, more than 500 people have signed up and I
did a good thing for Hub Pages as well. You see, I told you about the secret

here. Mind you, referral traffic is not going to earn you big money. Just a little amount of traffic will come in your way.

One of the thing that I lease bothered is my hub score. No wonder it helps
to have a good, healthy 95+ hub score. But, it is determined by hub page
algorithms, clicks, thumbs up, fans etc and I don’t think so you can really
tweak much. Just do all the remaining stuff well [write more hubs and market
them well], your hub score will take care of itself.

I wish to write often, but my life has expanded bey9ond my online career. I
meet friends, relatives and look after my family. I can only write if there
is a need. I can only write what I am expert at. I can only write what I
know about. So, I keep quiet if I don’t have anything to tell. I wish I
could really spend time hanging out in forums and other writers hubs [so
many good writers in the last year].

Write more hubs. Interlink all your hubs with your ‘tracker code’ in the
URL. Most importantly strive hard to reach the next level. How do you do it?
By talking to other senior and junior hubbers. Help others by sharing what
you know. When you share your knowledge with someone, you not only help that
person but also yourself. It is the law of the universe. Share love; Live
