Ten Things to Consider When Looking for a New Home
70Purchasing a new home can be fun, and a bit challenging at the same time. When looking for a new home, here are some things you might need to consider before buying the house.
Land
If you have a big family or a dog, you will probably need alot of land. Mostly in the backyard. The backyard is a place to kick back, relax, and have fun. More land will help with the fun part. Also, if you have a dog, you know how they LOVe to play! A big backyard with a lot of land will be suiting for the dog to play and 'do its business'.
Surroundings
The surroundings of the home are CRUCIAL!
First, consider the space or closeness between the houses. If your neighbors are close, then you probably won't have much privacy. If your neighbors are farther apart, you can enjoy your homestead with no interuptions.
Second, consider the area's construction. If you are looking to buy in a newly built addition with construction still taking place, you will probably be interupted by the noise.
Neighbors
Neighbors are also a pretty crucial part in looking. If you have good neighbors, then you will most likely live in peace at the house. If you have bad neighbors, that might be a probably. Heres a hint: Look in the front yard of the houses around and see if there is a high school sign in the front yard. If there is, teenagers live there. Teenagers love to have a good time, and for some reason, in the middle of the night. Watch out for that :).
Location, Location, Location
You can't move real estate, so location is the most important factor. Location includes schools, cities, reachable easily if theres an emergency, weather, and work.
Schools
As you know, children and kids must attend school. A good school within reasonable driving, maybe even walking, distance is a benefit when looking for a new home. Where you buy your new home, it will be located in a school district.
Cities
Cities is a big one. You will definitely need to be within driving range of a city or small town if you live in the country. Pretty much everything you need to survive is in the city. Grocery stores, pharmacies, doctors, hospitals, etc. Cities also provide fun. Shopping, parks, and just plain fun are found in most cities.
Cities with a big population can be a tough one. Places will be crowded and roads will be jammed. If the city has a non-dense population, places won't be as crowded and it will be easier to get around.
Emergencies
Emergencies happen every day in all different locations. If you live in the country, it will obviously be harder for medical attention to reach you unless you live close to a small town. Some country towns even have volunteer firemen and paramedics and that would be a benefit. If you live in big cities, it is actually probably only a little less harder than living in the country! The reason is because in big cities, the paramedics and firemen are VERY busy.
However, there are some small towns in bigger towns. For example, I live in a small community called Dalworthington Gardens, Texas, which I have written a hub on :). Dalworthington Gardens has a population of around 3,000 people. Arlington, Texas has a population of around 400,000! If you live in Arlington and need medical emergency right away, you will get an ambulance in at least 30 minutes! Thats unbelieveable! However, since I live in Dalworthington Gardens, if we have a medical emergency, an ambulance will be there in 2 minutes! What a difference in saving someone's life.
As you can see, it is important to muse of the location of the new home.
Weather
Weather is different in many locations. Rain, wind, sun, snow, etc are all examples of weather that you need to watch out for. If you or your kids play sports or if your family loves to play outside, you might want consider a place with warm conditions, like Texas. If you love rain, Washington. If you love snow, Colorado. If you love wind (for some odd reason?), Illinois.
Work
Most people in this world work. Work work work! So you might want to consider a location close to your workplace. If you live far away from your workplace, traffic is a concern. Traffic is not good when you are on your way to work.
The Home's Characteristics
Since you spend around 80% of your life in a house, you need to pick a good one! When looking at a new home, be sure to look at the foundation and roofing of the house. If the foundation has cracks, the foundation is weak and will need A LOT of work. If the roofing on the house is not up to date, the roof will leak and will need to be replaced. Be sure and look to see if the house needs work. Then examine the price and make sure the price of the house + the updating it needs (paint, creaks, etc.) and see if the home value is around the same price listed.
Hopefully these tips will help you determine the perfect new home fore you! Thanks for reading.

Well, you've covered a good checklist here! But I somehow got the feeling that your article seems addressed to working single people that may incidentally have a kid or two. I think the inclusion of the section on school is a bit thin and general, and hence my observation. I'm into real estate so I take note of target audiences. Good post though.
Actually, I think I covered everything in this article a family needs! The wife goes to the grocery store, the dad goes to work, and the kids go to school and those are things I have covered in this hub,

It's good to get the practicalities down on paper - they do say that buying a house is one of the biggest and most stressful things that one can do in life. you have covered a lot of bases here.
