Carne asada

This meat dish can be served with salsa and a side of rice. It can be also served  with a side of fried or mashed potatoes, beans, rice, and tortillas. The choice is yours.

Ingredients

3 pounds beef tenderloin

5 to 6 fresh garlic cloves (peeled and crushed)

2 teaspoons black pepper

1/3 teaspoon ground cumin

1/3 cup olive oil

Compliment with homemade or store bought salsa

How to prepare

Rinse beef and dry off with clean kitchen towel. Slice the meat into slices about 1/4 inch thick. Next put the meat into a large plastic bag. In a large bowl sitr the remaining ingredients and pour over meat in bag. Close bag tightly and turn to coat all sides of meat. Refrigerate a minimum of 4 hours or beeter yet over night to allow seasonings to help tenderize the meat even more. At one hour before cook time, remove meat from the refrigerator to allow it to come to room temperature. Next preheat, preferably a large cast iron skillet on a high heat setting . Sear or grill meat for 2 to 4 minutes, turning meat once. Cook meat to your desired doneness. Serve immediately with salsa or other sides as mentioned.

I"m from Cali too and carne asada though somewhat expensive was cooked on the grill just about every weekend at my house. We'd also use the meat to make mexican taco's (you know the ones with just meat, onions, avocado and corn tortilla). Great hub. I could eat carne asada for every meal:)

Christine, I can smell the tacos now. I mostly make chicken tacos, but the steak meat for tacos is far better than ground beef. Any left over meat can just be wrapped in a flour tortilla with some extras and you've got another meal. Grill on!!!

Thanks Laringo, I made this last night with Chirstine's fried bread recipe and everything was great. My wife and boys loved it and they can be pretty picky sometimes. I see you also have a salsa recipe. I will need to give that a try too.
