Thanksgiving At My Home
67Thanksgiving Dinner
Family Gets Together
With the Thanksgiving holiday almost here, I'm getting things ready for when all my children come home. Two of our sons live close by, Michael and Bobby, the other two live about three hours away, but in different directions. JR, lives in Tennessee and Chad, lives in Savannah. What with work schedules it's not easy for them all to get together, more then two or three times a year.
I have to tell you, that when you get four grown brothers in the same house, you have a house full of noise and laughter. When they were young they had their own things to do and their own friends to hang out with. Once they are grown and get together for awhile, you should hear some of the stories these boys tell. There seems to be one that will get the whole thing started, before you know it, they are about to bust a gut laughing. One is telling about something one of the others had done when they were kids, time comes to retaliate. It can go on for hours.
All the while I'm in the kitchen, smiling. Hearing them carrying on like they are. If it gets to loud for me, I just step outside for a minute or so. I have to get back to cooking. The turkey and ham will be done by that time, so I have the oven for my homemade dressing, sweet potato souffle', macaroni and cheese casserole. When I make the casserole, I add extra cheese. The boys will always tell you, "the more cheese the better the casserole." Green beans and giblet grave will be cooking on the stove. The potato salad will be made the evening before and in the refidgerator with the cranberry sauce. As much as I love baking, I turn the desserts over to one of my daughter-in-laws. She'll be brought in a Red Velvet Cake, cookies and candies, all of which she has made from scratch. Kristy is a wonderful cook.
The table will be set, we'll gather around to say grace. Giving thanks for our family, the love and caring for each other, the food we'll eat and most of all for life. After we eat and everything is cleaned up. we all sit and talk. When it's time for them to go, I fix containers of leftovers to take with them. There is always so much food left, since it's just me and my husband, there is no point in all of the food to be here and the boys will eat it.
I wish them safe travel, to call when they get home. After giving hugs I'll say, "Oh yeah, don't forget we'll be having Christmas dinner here too. I'll see ya'll then. I love ya'll, be careful on your drive home." I wave as they drive out of sight, then I sigh. I miss them already. They may be grown, ages 37,35 and 30 but their still my babies. Hum, well, I'll see all of them together again in a few weeks, the good Lord willing.
I want to wish all fellow hubbers and their families a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy each day of life and give thanks. Thank ya'll for stopping by to read my hub. God Bless.

Hi Naomi,
You got my mouth watering wanting to do an early Thanksgiving dinner now, hearing about all the good food you will be serving your family.
I enjoy the Holidays too with my family. Their a lot like yours, getting them all together at the same time takes some early planning. One of my sons also lives a long ways away much like yours. It's always good to get to spend time with them, even though it's only a couple times a year.
One son every time he comes up wants to take the boat to the lake to go fishing. It don't mater to him it's near freezing out there on the water then. I know cutting out across the water at 65 to 70 mph brings frozen tears to your eyes.
Going any slower only seems to make it colder because your body is exposed to those temps for longer periods of time. But I would take him even if there were ice on the water.
That boy loves fishing and I love going with him. That's one thing I did with my children was spend time in the outdoors with them so they may learn about nature as I did when I was younger and my dad took me fishing and hunting.
You got me really looking forward to this holiday season so I can be with my love ones too.
Thanks for this hub, you've given me an early dose of holiday (Turkey) fever.
Another Great hub, keep up the good work!
