100 Greatest Movie Soundtrack Songs
86Blue-Eyed Soul from Dublin ... The Commitments.
First of all, this list was a labor of love. I do not google anything when I make these lists. I prefer to rely on my own personal experiences and that way, if I miss one, I will hear about it from you based on your personal experiences. These songs are all from movies, period.
THEY DO NOT HAVE TO APPEAR ON A SOUNDTRACK ALBUM to be eligible for this list. AND they are not simply automatically eligible if they were on a soundtrack. THESE ARE MOVIE MOMENTS where no other song could have captured the moment like these did. I also tried to avoid USING MUSICALS (like Grease, Willie Wonka) or Biographical films about musicians (like La Bamba or Walk The Line)!
Do not play this if you haven't already seen RESERVOIR DOGS!!!!

Of course not. I'm so glad you wrote. The only reason I deleted our past convo was I overreacted and killed the thread.
Plus I was genuinely confused about Bandits, which may look from DVD box like just another Bruce Willis bad comedy. Or another perverted BillyBob comedy. This movie has genuine sparkle. It was touched by the film gods, you could say.
Where did we first get on the subject, was it not on the 100 greatest of the 2000s list?
It all started when I read your profile and your top 10 all-time favorite movies. Thought I recognized a kindred spirit. Keep up the great work, I love your hubs.
Would you consider Things Have Changed by Bob Dylan, from the Wonder Boys soundtrack?
Love the song and love the soundtrack but it does it strike you as a movie moment. I love that movie but there isn't a defining moment in the film to draw from.
That is the topic if you read the intro.
Did read the intro, sorry...haven't watched the movie in a very long time, it's what I think of when I hear the song. But you're right, I guess it really is more of a connection than defining moment thing.
What the....
Yeah Right!
Happy Birhtday to You! Happy Birthday to You! You deserve cheap-assed steak knives. Happy Birthday to you!
Sorry I haven't been around. I've been soooo friggin' busy. (Which is a good thing)
You can email me here. (Take out the EATSPAM)

Not that I see a lot of movies, unless they are kid movies anymore, but of those that I have watched, the ones on your list, when I hear them now, I think of the movie. Especially holiday road and the Shallow Hal one.
Great job. Donna
Thanks guys!
FOOTBALL RAP by LL COOL J (The closing credits song with Goldie Hawn and cast) WILDCATS
Aw Hell yeah!
OH NO! The inmates have left the asylum! What up fellas!
i would of put football rap way higher...not sure if you had any songs from the departed on the list? i could go back and check but i am lazy...how bout the end credit song? who is that Ray Lamontagne? prob the most underated guitar player ever.
The Dueling Banjos - Deliverance.... :O)
EXCELLENT CHOICE Fletch. That might have to get a mention.
I dig the whole list, but when I got to number 51 (Rolling With My Homies, in Clueless), that brought me baaaaaaaaaack. That movie was full of great music pairings. Another one that comes to mind:
"All The Young Dudes," with Cher talking about the greasy highschool boys being the reason she's a virgin...
Anyway, great list. As always, your hubs are full of thought and show your love for music, plainly!
Great choice Maddie! I almost used ALRIGHT by Supergrass too where they are posing for the photo by the fountain.
I have just deleted Flashdance in favor of Fletch's EXCELLENT CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah, the memories! You know, I still sometimes find myself singing "Supermodel" (by Jill Sobule, from the movie, NOT the RuPaul song, in case there's any ambiguity) in the shower, getting dressed, or walking down the street with girlfriends...
Although, actually, I've been known to sing the RuPaul song too. ;)
Thanks for reminiscing with me Maddie. i don't know if you've been to my new
100 Funniest Movies Series (I've only gotten from 100-80 so far) but since it's you and you're in with the big guys I can reveal ahead of time that CLUELESS starring Silverstone, Murphy and RUUD as in Paul! or is it Rudd.? yeah it's Rudd, I'm a dumbass, anyway it will be coming in on our countdown at # 39!
Paul Rudd, yes. Paul Ruud is my father, among others. It's a rather popular name among Scandinavians and Scando-Americans.
I'll check it out. Sounds right up my alley!
PS: I loved "The Commitments." Been many years, perhaps I should rent it again...
Brilliant Hub... your list is eclectic, superior and that of a raving lunatic. I love your organized madness. I can't wait to read more.
Wow. Thank You very much.
DJ - EXCELLENT JOB !!!
Boy!! This Must Have Taken you a year to gather info on and write about
Loved the BeetleJuice Number
Just Wanted To add one to the list of my own personal favorites:
Remember The Breakfast Club and The Simple Minds Tune "Don't You Forget About Me"
This only took me two hours off th etop of my head actually. I don't have a hard time drawing on these moments for some reason.
Re: your selection >> Good call, Judd Nelson pumps his fist at the end, sure.
I have to nominate another one. "Let my love open the door" Pete Townshed. During the family talent show in Dan In Real Life. Gets me every time.
I LOVED that moment. It's in!!!! Which 1 do I take off ? hmmmm.
Sister Act nuns was lame anyways. Good job Rhym.
how about down with the sickness-dawn of the dead
and we belong-talledaga nights
Great hub! You are all of the place but I want to read more. :)
-Your newest fan
Wow! I'm just going to quote Rhym here "May I start out by saying that no one could possibly read any of your hubs and not realize the incredible amount of thought you put into them." Over and over...I'm fascinated by your columns! Fantastic!
hi so much
#64, "Everybody's talking". That one song made the movie. Midnight Cowboy, itself, was a very disturbing movie. If it had not been for Voight's acting, a few nude scenes and some great music, it would be a bust. Instead, it is an American classic.
wow this is really great list.... most of the listed songs i know about..and they are really nice ...thanx for sharing...
aren,t there hindi songs???????????????
No. Make your own list.
I love this list and would be hard pushed to pick my number one from it thre are only two films mentioned that I have not seen.
I'd have to add 'Superfreak' from "Little Miss Sunshine" - defining moment in which the vision of a stoned (and very recently dead) grandfather propels his grandaughter willingly into the spotlight where she totally teras apart the sick notion of beauty pageants for little girls.
Great list.
I tried to listed/watch some of the videos, but they have all been removed.
I love this one
NOW THAT I'VE FOUND YOU by THE FOUNDATIONS (Closing theme to) SHALLOW HAL
Great songs! Great scenes! Great hub!
I'm glad you included Wise Up from Magnolia. It's a great scene.
Not on your list, but the scene in Almost Famous where the characters (one by one) start singing along to Tiny Dancer always get my full attention.
Summer Nights in Grease is a fun scene.
Uncle Fucka in South Park is hilarious!
I don't think I could compile a list this comprehensive even WITH Google! You are amazing! Makes me want to soundtrack my own life!
Here are two that I would add:
1. "Afternoon Delight" as sung by Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his cronies (in harmony) in Anchorman.
2. I like the one you picked for Goodfellas, but my absolute FAVE is the cocaine-paranoid-helicopters-are-on-your-tail-and-the-shit's-about-to-go-down scene. I can never listen to Nilson's "Jump Into the Fire" without thinking of Henry Hill...
Disappointing. I thought these were going to be movie songs. These are songs thrown into movies probably because they didn't want to pay some song writers and performers to do original music for the movies. Why promote such a cheap-ass way of donig things?
Yep a really great list...great memories of songs and movies....and a fantastic resource for a night of relaxation!
the song sweet jane was originally by velvet underground in the late sixties and is the greatest song of all time you should listen to it

DJ Funktual,
May I start out by saying that no one could possibly read any of your hubs and not realize the incredible amount of thought you put into them. I would also be surprized if there were a movie or song made that you HAVEN'T seen or heard. That being said, I shouldnt have tried to joke around with you like someone I know, because I dont. Sorry about that.
I also tried to think of what the "defining" moment was in the movie when Just Another was playing and you were right in that there wasn't any real action going on then .......and maybe this is a chick point of view, but....you have two best friends that are not just attracted to, but truely in love with the same woman and that same woman finally finds what she has been looking for, but only with both of them and knows that choosing just one will ruin everything. Then there is the song that takes all the things you feel right then and wraps it up like a gift that you get to open again and again. I can never hear that song now without immediately remembering that moment, and also maybe an impossible situation from my own past, and the bittersweet feeling that comes with it. To me, that is a defining movie moment.
You dont have to keep this comment either, as I really just wrote it to you to help explain what I meant before. I really wasnt trying to be a smartass.
