Writers Wrote and Social Networkers Conversed

If you read the forums during the 100 hubs in 30 days, you would notice that the writers who were quitting or not participating were the ones who were not prolific as writers. They were writers who joined Hubpages as a social network to add fans instead of to produce quality hubpage articles. These writers still remain and you can see them in the forums and check their writing stats and their propensity to add fans or friends. You will see a huge variance.

For that reason I do not think that people left hubpages because of the 100 hubs in 30 day challenge. The beauty of hubpages is that you may treat it like a job, a hobby or as a social network. With monetization in place at hubpages, I think that the social networking is here to stay but that no one should frown on the internet marketer. People do not quit their jobs or vocation because things get tough, they ride it as a few hubbers did, or they just stay for the duration. The ones who decided not to participate in the 100 hubs in 30 days challenge explored other websites picking up valuable information and continued writing after the challenge was over.

Laughing Mom a hubpages writer admitted that she left because of Hubpages procilivity to not accept adult content and for negative social interaction in the forums from the non-producers. Others have left because blogging is becoming a pastime that has just about consumed the internet.  There are millions of blogging sites and people are basically transient and rarely stay on one blogging site.  A blog is a public journal and people like to write about themselves. Bloggers are adding writing sites but few are walking away from themselves or hubpages for that matter  because of a challenge.

The hubpage challenge for me let me know that there were writers working together to accomplish a common goal. It was a great feeling to view the videos and to keep up with how many quality hubs had been written along the course of the 100 hubs in 30 days challenge. There was a sense of experiencing a common goal  that could be experienced without visiting the forums.  The forums on some weekend nights can become almost like a dating site and tis sometimes full of one on one conversations about a beer drinking excursion.  I wonder if that is why Uninvited Writer chose that moniker because of alooking of interruption when participating in the forum.

Also the 100 hubs in 30 days was a personal challenge to see if I could remain a part of something that although was not mandatory, was a group effort to accomplish something positive. Because of my participation in the 100 hubs in 30 days challenge  it is now easier for me to commit to four hubs a day to keep the Google Adsense earning increasing steadily. I do not have my own personal computer and had to squeeze time in between the public library computer and the computer of family members.

Without internet writing and the ease in getting published, many writers would not be getting any income from the internet. The income is not anything to write home about and I was only concentrating on completing the task along with the group as a online community based project. Being published however and being part of a group effort in the 100 hubs in 30 days challenge made it possible to write more qualitiy hubs and to branch out to other writing sites.I completed the hubpage challenge in 23 days and that accomplishment gave me the confidence to apply at other writing sites and let me know what my writing niche entailed.

To generalize and blame to 100 hubs in 30 days challenge for writers leaving hubpages  is not right because there was not an analytic done to measure the participation rate. Therefore, the 100 hubs ing 30 days challenge can not be placed as the reason for people leaving hubpages. A report was recently completed that stated that people stay on Twitter or other social media for about 30 days and then they drop off and stop twittering or using Facebook. Until a web analytic is done on the number of hubbers leaving hubpages and why, basis for the flight can not be blamed on any one reason.

I wrote Laughing Mom that I hope for her to return and that is my hope for any hubber who decides for whatever reason to leave. Hubpages have an online community spirit that is illustrated by the varied monikers and interesting profiles. If you take a moment and read the profiles of the hubpage staff, you will be even more honored to be a part of the hubpage community.  Their profiles are full of advanced degrees and interesting hobbies.

The social interaction at hubpages is great and I can only see the community growing with increased writers and readership as the Hubpage staff continue to keep up with technological advances .

Note: Thank you hubpage staff for adding Twitter and Facebook during the 100 hubs in 30 days challenge. Social media is an excellent source to share hubpage content.  Website Magazine reports that social media may outdistance Google Search Engine as internet users are using social media now for infomational purposes instead of search page results.

Good observations. Wow no computer and you managed the challenge, that is a feat on its own. Well done!

Gypsy Willow, thank you for your comment.  Quite a fast response is much appreciated as this hub was just published.

Accomplishing the 100 hubs in 30 days was a feat in itself.  I managed the task by writing the old fashioned way on a lined tablet until I had computer acesss.  The public libraries only allow one hour of public usage so I had to get about three library cards.

The 100 hubs in 30 days challenge was easy for me because I would type from my writing tablet instead of composing at the computer. I used one family member's computer when he was at school and another when she went to work.

I hope that my ability to accomplish a challenge will give prudence to sheer determination to complete a group task and to make no excuses about any perceived shortcomings.

I appreciate your response and recognition, Gypsy Willow.

I have been wondering how you do it, Linda. I can't even keep up with reading your stuff, much less writing 4 hubs myself in between! I came to hub pages during the 30 day challenge or right before, but read a little of the controversy about it. I am not sure of your production before the challenge, but there is no doubt that you are now a very prolific writer! From what I had read, some people were saying that people would put out crap just because of the challenge, but you are an amazing example of a writer who can not only put it out there, but can maintain high standards while doing it. I am very impressed.

Connie Smith, thank you for your comment.  I also could not understand why writers would publish a piece of work that did not truly represent them in the best light.  I think that the wriers who participated in the 100 hubs in 30 days had their reasons for quitting or for completing the challenge.

I voluntarily joined Hubpages and was pleased with the online community as well as the staff.  No one hired me and no one asked me to write so I had an obligation to myself and to my readers to do my best work.  I was motivated to do my best because I knew that anything less should not be published and would not be a true representation of my work.

I vowed  to put out  quality and relevant articles each time I clicked on the publish now button and is much receptive of your comment as being a prolific writer.

Connie Smith, your comment is an inspiration and your words of encouragement is well acknowledged.  Although there were no bells and whistles after the completion of the challenge, I accept your comment as kudos that my written work was much appreciated by the Hubpage community.

I am happy to be an inspiration, but I don't think you need one lol. However, we do all need encouragement and appreciation every now and then and I am happy to give you that.
