It would seem that the honeymoon with the media is over for President Obama.  The talk since he took office has been how the media has treated him with kid’s gloves and this is common for all new Presidents that are not incumbent.  It looks like the gloves are coming off due to this weeks Town Hall Farce where the questions, as well as participants, were screened.  It isn’t that hard to make it look like you have the support of the people when they gather in a town hall setting and all agree to the script before it starts.

Helen Thomas, long time liberal journalist and democratic supporter and proof that Golda Mier and Madeleine Albright had a child together, finally had enough.  She, along with others that have had their heads so far up Obamas rear end since he became president that they  would need it surgically remove if he ever came to an abrupt stop, made the liberal press corps feeling known to press secretary Gibbs.  Basically they accused the administration of controlling the press.  This has probably caught the Obama administration off guard since the same media has been helping him control everything else.

It would be hard to say anything derogatory about the media that we all don’t already know.  It would even be harder to say something good about them.  I do not think anyone out there, other than a reporter or editor would disagree that the media has become way to powerful in this country. 

I remember well watching the first gulf war on the news and I could not believe some of the things they were reporting.  They were actually reporting things that our military was planning to do but had not done yet.  I realize there is such a thing as the first amendment, and they hide behind it well, but does the first amendment protect you from treason?  If a soldier were to say on national TV, some of the things I heard the news report, they would be charged with treason or aiding the enemy.  They have become the judge and jury in national news court trials.  They can have you acquitted or convicted before you ever set foot in a court room.  They use their position to sway public opinion on practically everything these days.

What ever happened to unbiased reporting?  Now days certain networks are obviously on certain sides of the political arena to the point where they actually campaign for a particular candidate prior to an election.  They constantly report things one sided and no longer even gives the opposing side equal time.  For instance, CNN could not be any more liberal if they tried and Fox news, which I watch, is conservative.  To my knowledge Fox news is the only conservative news there is and I hear it is voted the number one news program on TV; keep up the good work guys.  For many of us Fox news is the only broadcast news that is fair to both sides of an issue and that is what people used to watch the news for.  You remember back when we had minds of our own and we even occasionally used them. 

News anchors, men and women, used to be accountable for what they said and did.  I guess a few still are, right Mr. Rather?  Remember when Walter Cronkite was voted the most trusted man in America?  Who is it now, is there one now?

We have a local news paper here in this little town I live in and you cannot get a letter to the editor placed in the paper, in the letters to the editor section, unless he agrees with what you are saying.  I never knew that freedom of the press didn’t apply to all of us.  What a country, only in America can one person decide what you should say and what you should keep to yourself.  Wait, that’s not true.  I guess that would be the case anywhere that has dictators running the show but most countries run by dictators only have one at a time.  We have so many in this country that it is hard to keep up with what we are suppose to say and think from day to day.  We have a President that tells us what he thinks we want to hear and what he thinks is going on.  We have a congress that actually runs the country and doesn’t tell us anything at all out of fear that there would be lynch mobs.  We have the FDA that tells us what is safe this week to eat and what prescriptions are safe.  They also tell us what companies we can file a law suit against if we had a family member die from taking a drug that was approved six months ago and said to be tested safe.  And let us not forget the EPA.  That wonderful government agency that tells us it is not safe to breathe outside and continues to let factories pollute the air providing they pay fines that exceed $15,000 a day.
