Best Ever Martial Arts Webisodes!

These days there are some really good quality web series out there if you know where to find them. Gone are the days when this kind of web series available only online was made by a couple of teenagers with a camcorder over the course of a weekend just for a laugh. Nowadays there are some professional media companies making high quality series purely for release on the internet, although having said that there are still some great amateur offering out there too, so I haven't ignored those when putting together this hub in which I have chosen what I think are three of the best around at the moment. I hope you enjoy them, and don't forget to take a look at the other links I've included for more martial arts entertainment!

Katana

This is a new series, and I hope I haven't jumped the gun by including it because so far only the pilot episode has been released and there is no guarantee that it will be developed into a full series, although judging by the positive feedback that it has had and the fact that it has a serious producer behind it with oter quality web series to their name I think it's a fair bet that we will see more episodes before long. The reason I decided to include it is that I am so excited about it. This really does look like it is going to be far and away the best martial arts web series yet.

The story is set in the japanese Yakuza criminal underworld, where sibling rivalry is writ large as brothers go to war for control of the family and it's criminal business. From the pilot episode it looks professionally filmed and produces, with better acting than you see on tv a lot of the time, and the best bit is that it is packed full of martial arts action and the fight scenes, including both fist fights and the eponymous Katana sword, are realistic and very well choreographed and shot. The pilot is an enjoyable 9 minutes of entertainment, and I for one am eagerly looking forward to the next installment.

Kung Fu Girls Club

This is a light hearted amatuer production which offers mixture of science fiction and martial arts which, if truth be told, sells itself mainly on the fact that they've got a cast of sexy women dressed up in school girls uniforms for some buffy-eque ass kicking of some supernatural baddies. The actual kung fu action isn't up to much, but they have put some effort into the story lines, there's loads of episodes if you do get into it, and the girls really are hot.

Karma Kula

This is another professional looking production, but very different from Katana. Karma Kula is the story of a 'mystic warrior', and focusses much more heavily on the romance and philosophy of the way of the warrior rather than the actual fight action. It is quite slow paced and arty, which isn't neccesarily my kind of thing, but it is very visually impressive indeed, and the special effects, costumes and general cinematography skills that have gone into making this series are worth the time you will spend watching it on their own.
