2009 List Already?

I know what you're thinking, dude, 2009 isn't even over yet. Right, it isn't, but this year has had some seriously raw battles already and I think it's well worth it to spend the time writing about it now while it's fresh in our minds. Plus, I'm getting impatient and I'd like to write about them, so enough of this waiting crap. So, let's move on and dive into this amazing year of bboying.

Battle #1 - Jinjo versus Rivers - Uk BBoy Championships Korea

Over the last 3 years these 2 crews have had some legendary battle. The Cyon battle in 2008, Armory 2006 and most recently Uk BBoy Champs 2009. Both of these crews contain some of the biggest names in bboying right now. BBoys like Wing, Naughty One, Born, Hong 10, Phsyicxs and Phoenix; throwin' down their illest sets. Jinjo arguably has some of the most interesting routines in the world. Rivers is one of the oldest crews in Korea, keeping shit ill for years.

Always a good battle when either crew are involved, but amazing when both are. There was a lot of really hype, really on point sets in this battle. The battle was pretty close and required a tie break to settle it up.

Battle #2 - Kmel and FleaRock versus Team Shmetta - Flow One Three

Wow, any battle with Kmel in it is going to be sick and this battle did not disappoint. The man is a legend for a reason, he has such a strong battle personality, you know who you're battling when you're in the circle with Kmel. That being said, I have no idea how Shmetta didn't take this one. Shmettas first set was off the hook, they crashed less, they just danced better. However, I'm not a judge, so we'll leave it at that.

Check out this hype 2 on 2.

Battle #3 - Roxrite versus Lagaet - R16

Roxrite, one of the cleanest BBoys to break battles Lagaet, a young promosing BBoy out of Portugal. I really enjoyed this one, Roxrite took it and deservingly so, every time I see him break he's always got new moves. Lagaet is definitely fresh, although even in this short battle there was some power move repeating going on. I think part of the reason I enjoyed this battle so much was the fact that it was straight skills, no dick signs, no one standing in front of the other BBoy blocking them from dancing, no bite signs and no slapping the ground on crashes. It was just raw skills and attitude. Yes, you can in fact have attitude and not be a complete dick.

Battle #4- Floor Gangz versus Rivers - BBoy Challenge

Well, the fact that they're all actually part of the same family crew doesn't take away from this battle.   Both sides still went hard for the win.   The footwork in this battle was so sick, seemed like they had a no airflare rule in place, hah (which is a good thing).     All the BBoys in this batle had at least one good set, with Tinoroc drop 2 sets full of murder.   Floor Gangz ends up taking it:

Battle #5 - Lagaet versus Neguin

Both these young Bboys show some great moves.  Lagaet repeats a little too much on power for my liking, but he's still young and there's plenty of time for him to add some amazing footwork.  Neguin does 3 back-flips in a row with a no momentum start.  Absolutely amazing!  Very impressed by both Bboys, the future looks really good with Bboys like these coming up!

Amazing battle, the little Brazilian is one of the best all around Bboys I've seen, flips, power, footwork.  He displayed all of it.  I think the battle versus Cloud in the semifinals could have definitely been called for Neguin instead.

This Could All Change...

These are my favorite battles, thus far. With amazing events like Redbull BCone slated for November 18th (16 amazing BBoys!), BBoy Evolution (Hong 10 vs Crumbs!) December 4th, 5th and 6th and many others, this year could prove to be even better than it has been so far. So make sure you check back here in the not too distant future for updates.
