Groovy Music from Groovy People, Man!

I was born in March of 1971. By all accounts I should not know the relevance of these albums much less own and love them. Take "Forever Changes" by Love. Critics will tell you it's a masterpiece. I liked it, didn't love it. But based on their faith in it, I took a chance and got it for myself. These are the best albums I have found in my travels. These albums you can take on faith from your pal DJ Funktual

What about Elvis? And Joanie Mitchell? I've always thought, the big three of that era were Elvis, Bob Dylan and The Beatles.

Well I can explain about Joni.

Her albums Blue '71 and Court & Spark '74 and Both Sides Now 2000 are the ones that move me. None from the sixties.

I like elvis but his albums are so overlapping with songs and hits packages and soundtracks. He is the ultimate singles artist.

Now this is great music. I had to do an article on the Grammy's so had to sit and watch them.....sorry, but to me, that music is fly by night, probably won't be here next year kind of crap. Except for Alicia Keyes, I thought they sucked. The stuff you have here is the rock and roll that I grew up on and what I know as music....this other stuff.....alien to me! Thanks funkman

Thanks for that DJ.

Reading through your list, you can understand why it was the greatest time.

Most of the albums with a few notable exceptions are late sixties. So I redefined the sixties as 1964-1974. That would have included Joni Mitchell. The spirit of the time didn't respect our artificial decade boundary!!

I've added a couple of links from my Hippies-In-The-Sixties hub. Hope you don't mind!

...and listen to anything by Jacqueline Du Pre.

She may not fit into your list, because of her genre, but she introduced me to classical music for all the wrong reasons. She Rocks (well strictly she doesn't)

Old is Gold as the saying goes I am sure these are the best ones you have on your list.In India too the 60s and 70s still rock.

This thread is slowing to a halt so I'll just jump in now and say that I love all music so if any of you out there know of something that you feel has gone under the radar, in any decade, please drop a shout!

I'm gald to see the Stones Let It Bleed in the top ten. Love the Stones and saw em three times on this last tour..Memphis, Little Rock and Vegas, with Vegas being the best show. Stones fans hail Exile on Main Street as the best of the golden four but I list them in this order:

Let It Bleed

Sticky Fingers

Exile on Main St.

Beggars Banquet

Love your Hubs!

I'm a Memphis boy so I have to plug The King, BIG "E"!

Hey DJ Funktual - Whoa... your list brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks for posting. My favorite LP is Sgt. Pepper. Tommy by The Who would be number two. Ceck out my blog - drop by and say hi http://www.dylanbootlegsblog.com

You're going to have to make room for the Beatles' Revolver. A must.
