The 90's vs. the 00's
84
Why the 90's are the Clear Winner
It doesn't matter what category you look at- the 90's were superior to the 00's in every conceivable way. From entertainment to politics, from fashion to slang, there's just no comparison.
Fashion- The 90's Stomp the 00's
90's
You wore comfy flannel, whatever kind of old shoes you felt like wearing, and a style that was all your own. If your clothes were torn or something- fine. If you felt like wearing two or three shirts- great. If you liked wearing hats and six earrings on each ear, more power to ya'. Just put on whatever and hop in the mosh pit.
00's
If you don't have immaculate, designer clothing, you are not worthy of being alive. You need toned abs for the half-shirts and $400 for the shoes. Style? What the hell is style? Just wear whatever they do on the gossip blogs. Now go bleach your teeth or they will make fun of you on MySpace.
Entertainment- The 90's Rocked
Jerry! Jerry! Back in the day, talk shows ruled. I had a friend on college who used to say, "bring on the freaks!" every afternoon when we were finished with classes for the day. Yeah- that's when people went to school and then college instead of deciding that they could educate themselves at home by designing websites.
Anyway, 00's reality shows try their hand at the freakshow that was the 90's, but carefully orchestrated weirdness just isn't the same thing. Reality shows? Please. There are 10 skanks who try to outskank each other in order to stay on the show so they can, um, I don't even know why. They're awful. Can't...look...away...

Slang of Both Eras: 00's Lose
I think the 90's were da bomb- all that and a bag of chips. I would say that the 00's should come with and get some phat style, but I suppose 00's supporter would say, um, ho- that's a pimp, ho.
No really, that's like the only slang they have. Ho and pimp. I don't even want to go there. So yada yada yada- the 90's win. Damn skippy.

I agree that the 90s are better but I also think you were waaaay off to choose those representatives of modern culture. You've got to be kidding.
Just as you ignored the 90s Macarena, you didn't ignore it for the 00s. Katy Perry vs. nirvana? Yer not being fair dude.
Music of the 00s
The White Stripes
The Strokes
M.I.A.
Coldplay
50 Cent
Gnarls Barkley
Beck
Well, it was slanted because I'm biased. I'm sure that High School Musical isn't the best that the 00's have to offer, but the ones I mentioned are what comes to mind when I think about this decade's music. And- Beck was waaaaay better in the 90's.
You might be right about Beck but I could say the same about Diddy who you've listed as a 00s artist.
All your picks are from tabloids which you prob'ly never even listened to. I'm simply suggesting that you should compare artists from nowadays that YOU LIKE that way you can pull for both sides to win but you'll be forced to deal with the outcome once the facts are presented. I think you're excuse that you're biased is fine but it makes for a hub that has no credibility because the argument is one-sided. Don't get me wrong, I like your hub but If you wanna compare the people I LISTED vs. YOUR 90s people, now you have a comparison at least.
Your list is all rock so I'll take out some of the artists who don't apply and suggest you pit your 90s artists (besides Blink 182 (who I'm assuming is a joke on your part) vs.
The White Stripes
The Strokes
The Killers
Wolfmother
Nickelback (you should be able to slaughter their crappy tunes)
Coldplay
I think you may be taking it a tad seriously. It's just my opinion about music based on my own tastes. The hub has credibility because I know my own taste better than anyone else. If you want to make a hub about my musical tastes, you are certainly welcome, but I can't say that it will be as accurate as this one.
I didn't list anyone from this decade that I like because there isn't anyone. People don't make music anymore for the most part. They choose acts based on how they look and then either teach them how to (barely) sing or else just blend their voices with a chorus.
I like Blink 182. ;)
I think people always view the decade they are in worse then the previouse decade because they like to call it the "good-old-days"
During the '90s we never went around saying "WOW music now is so much better then the '80s"...no in the '90s i remember people talking about how they loved the '80s!
And then 2005-2006 come along and everyone is all "The '90s were amazing! Best days ever!"
But i know ...come 2015-2016 everyone will talk about the stars and styles of the '00s. We don't relize or know what will leave a lasting impression on us in the future...but when the time comes there will be certin songs to represent the '00s. It dosen't matter if you like High School Musical or The white stripes! Because back in the '90s it was the same way. I remember older kids hating stupid nick shows just like older kids now hate stupid disney shows!
That's not the memory that I have. I remember in the 90's people being happy that the pop music of the 80's was gone. In the 80's, poeple were glad that disco was over.
People are looking back to 90's music now because 00's music is so shockingly bad. It has nothing to do with the music anymore- record companies don't even hire singers. They hire models and then teach them how to sing a little and to perform. That's what they sell now.
Music now is shockingly bad? When i look at the charts...a lot of entertainers from the '80s and '90s are still around and making music!
I PROMISE that in 6 years we will be loving the classics that were the '00s! This happens every decade...people always are concerned that the new music sucks!
I know for one thing i like the music now! And i liked the music then! There is no diffrence besides that fact that you are older and as well like to call the past the "Good old Days"
Bdizz is very correct, and i remember everything he said. In the '90s people didn't think music was the BEST but in time they became classics!
I'd have to disagree. It is truly. shockingly bad right now. I wouldn't even consider it music, it's just crap that they package to get you to pay for concert tickets and t-shirts. For the singers and groups from the 80's and 90's to make music now, they have to severely water it down to get it played at all. I actually wish the bands from that era would stop it because they are ruining their body of work by doing this.
Like a lot of poeple in the 90's, I was in awe of all of the great music coming out. I remember sitting with friends several times and talking about how lucky we were to be living in the 90's and having such great, historic music coming out all of the time. We thought it must have beem what the late 60's was like. I think that people who think otherwise likely aren't old enough to have remembered those days.
DJ Funktual , whatever is connected to rap (retards attempt poetry) is fucking terrible. 50 cent? I asume you were joking there because the black stereotypical shit is the worst stuff available.
60s:70s::90s:00s
rock:disco::alternative:"hip hop"
sitcom:variety show::drama:reality show
man on moon:gas prices::internet, human genome:gas prices
I remember watching the Wonder Years and wishing I grew up in the 60s. Little did I know that growing up in the 90s was comparable if not better. Now my generation is having its dark night of the soul in the 00s like our parents did in the 70s. Don't worry though, we'll work through this. I'm just pissed that my college years were wasted after 9/11.
That's a very good comparison. I do hold out hope that all of this will be over soon and something better is waiting in the next decade.
90's was great, you could be a white kid and dress like one instead of this hip-hop culture bullshit and still be "cool." Music was great as far as metal, rock, and some rap, not to mention the 90's was the launch of industrial/electronic music and it was great. The economy wasn't blown to shit over some war the rich politicians see as a game (that's right, Bill was the best president) you could actually make a decent living with just a high school diploma if you were young, being a gangster wasn't as "hip" compared to now days, so it was a bit more peaceful, white kids actually got made fun of for trying to act black unlike now where wiggers run the streets and it's seen as somewhat "normal", you could actually have a personality of your own without conforming into the "myspace cool kid's club" taking shirtless pic's trying to flex. I know I mentioned music already, but I can't explain enough how mainstream music sucks horribly, wtf kind of shit is Miley Cirus, high school musical, soulja boy? That's the most generic, mediocre crap I've heard. You've heard one hip-hop/pop artist you've heard them all, it's garbage. There's so much more I could say about how much better tha 90's was, so the 90's wins hands down
OMG, all of that is so true. I just don't understand why the generic stuff they have now is at all popular.
The 90's were fun, but I think it's one of those things that you miss the good parts when it's gone. Also, most of us had no idea crazy a-holes from the dark ages were going to start a war.
Early 90's no Internet = Bad.
Late 90's Racing around in my '92 Mustang GT convertible = Good.
The music did seen better back then. Now they just market to young girls and rap fans.
White Stripes were pretty kick-ass though.
I would have to agree with most of you guys. Even though I was born in 1991, i didn't get to actually live in the 90's. But to make up for lost time I listen to my favorite music, mid 80's to 90s grunge and radio hits. Thats another thing, even the radio hits were ALOT better than what they have on the radio today.
I'm afraid the next decade won't bring anything better though, hardcore just was raised in popularity and along with this whole scremo,emo, scene thing (vomits.. lol).
But yeah the only music off the top of my head that I appreciate from this decade is black gives way to blue (AiC), wolfmother, hybrid theroy (linkin park), Jack White, chevelle, and deftones.
I agree reality TV shows should burn in hell but you can't throw lost, hereos, jericho, or dexter tv shows down there. Or family guy for that matter.
But yeah along with the music, disney also went down hill the turn of the decade. And lastly i heard it was possible to get a job in high school. Something i haven't had and I'm a freshmen in college.
Oh and Metallica's death magnetic is also something good to take away from this decade. While, late 90's yankees baseball is something i wish i didn't miss :P
... and the video games! Mind you I appreciate nicer graphics, but the gameplay was SO much better in the 90's you just can't beat the REAL sonic games, old super mario, resident evil series prior to 5, and PS1 FF games; No way no how. Yes, thats an F U to halo and 1st person shooter games.
... even the rap was really good in the 90's.. that says alot coming from someone who hates rap.
Yeah.. if the 90's Chris Cornell saw what the today chris cornell was doing he would beat him up with a drumstick :/
I'm still you're fan Chris but PLEASE cme back to grunge. Just cause your social life might have changed along with time, doesn't mean you have to!
Okay , the 90's was great , but so where the years of 2000-2006 , remember S CLUB SEVEN ? oh yersh , who dosnt love that happy music ??? and vennsesa carlton! and snow patrol! and BUSTED! and non bald britney! and nickleback! and AMERICAN IDIOT!!!!and Gnarles barkley , and the old suga babes and FOB!!! what im saying is the early 00's rocked , before the economic crises and such , i miss the early 00's when HAPPY was the thing :)
The only one of those I've heard of was American Idiot, and that wasn't that good. Green Day is a shell of what they were in the 90's.
ALL I CAN SAY IS I LOVED THE 90'S I MISS THE MUSIC, I MISS THE REALNESS OF EVERYONE, AND I AGREE THE 90'S WIPES THE FLOOR WITH THE 00'S IN EVERY WAY FROM TV SHOWS TO FASION!!!
EVEN WHEN IT COMES TO CARS!!!! AT LEAST HONDA'S WOULD REALLY FLAT OUT FLY BACK THEN, NOW THEY COST AS MUCH AS BEEMERS AND ARE QUITE UNDERPOWERED.

I agree. The 90s seemed to be funnier and more optimistic too. No 9/11, Iraq, or over-priced gas. But at least Jerry Springer lives on. Trailer parks are trailer parks in whatever decade.
