Why can't I rent my all-time favorite horror movie from Netflix? Every OTHER movie by Abel Ferrara can be rented so why not this one? ANSWER: It was never even made into a DVD!!! Polygram USA Video released it on VHS in March of 1997. Why isn't there a DVD? WHY?

If anyone can give me an answer to this question, I would be eternally grateful! I lent my VHS copy to someone and now it's gone.

Abel Ferrara has a distinguished career as someone who likes to stir up a lot of crazy ideas into one enthralling statement. 1990's King of New York is highly regarded as a major influence on Gangsta-Mafia films and Christopher Walken's performance in it is one of his most memorable. He then moved on to the investigation of a raped nun in Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel. It's portrayal of not only the NYPD but the city of Manhattan itself is stunning. He then outdid himself with one of the Greatest Horror Films of all-time called The Addiction.

Starring Lili Taylor, Christopher Walken, Annabella Sciorra, Kathryn Erbe of Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Edie Falco of "The Sopranos".

This film is about Kathy Conklin, a doctoral student in philosphy at NYU who is dragged violently off the street and bitten by a vampire. The vampire Casanova (Sciorra) is an atypical vampire in that she gives Kathy a chance to save herself by simply saying "go away" like she means it. However when she fails to speak up she is given a vampire's 'kiss' and Casanova leaves her alive. Unsure what new reality awaits her, Kathy tries to go about her normal life until the craving begins. Covering all mirrors in her place and shading her own eyes with heavy sunglasses she stumbles into a moral dilemma. Is she willing to kill to ease the burden of this 'addiction'? Not at first. But of course..

Now, rapidly descending deep into her addiction, Kathy tails a possible victim who turns out to be Peina (Walken), an old vampire who invites Kathy to his loft. Peina tells Kathy that he himself has been 'fasting' for four years and has learned to live without blood through the strength of his will. Peina tries to advise Kathy to carry on living as a vampire without having to give in to the addiction. It's no use. Suffering from the pangs of her addiction, Kathy attempts to slit her own wrist, but you can't kill what's already dead.

There is so much more to it but I don't want to spoil any of the great stuff that happens in the middle-to-end.
