When we think of the term minimally invasive surgery we may tend to think in terms of internal organ operations or bone repair.  In fact, minimally invasive surgery is a technique popular in beauty and skin care as well.  There are a few important non-invasive techniques used by dermatologists that speed our recovery time and give better and longer lasting results.  We’ll talk about a few here today.

As those wrinkles begin to appear in the mirror, you may find yourself in a bit of shock at first.  No worries, mate.  There are a few procedures that are considered minimally invasive that will give you back that youthful appearance in no time.  One of these is called Fraxel laser treatment.  Laser treatment pin points a very tiny part of the skin no larger than a tenth of the diameter of a hair follicle.  The laser then repairs damage under the skin so the recovery time is quicker.  The results are also more immediate.  This is also useful for the treatment of skin discoloration as well as problem acne.  This use of the laser is actually considered minimally invasive surgery since the laser does penetrate the skin and a local anesthetic is necessary.

Also considered minimally invasive surgery is the use of Botox and other dermal fillers.  The most popular of these today are Restylane and Perlane.  The two are the same except for the size of the gel bubbles.  These are effective for lip enhancement and smoothing wrinkles.  These also treat crow’s feet and jowls.  The use of a needle to inject the dermal filler is what makes it a minimally invasive surgery.  Restylane is usually used to treat the lighter effects of aging while Perlane tends to be used more often for deeper wrinkles and the lip enhancement.  Your dermatologist will be able to tell you what is right for you.

Another minimally invasive surgery in beauty enhancement is the facelift.  Yes, there are techniques for minimally invasive surgery in the arena of facelifts.  One is the limited incision face lift.  It is done with an incision in the scalp and then the brows are pulled up to tighten the skin.  While this is not for everyone, it has the added benefit of being able to be done with a local anesthetic and without bruising.  Another facelift that is minimally invasive surgery is the short scar technique.  This is a mid face procedure also done with a local anesthetic.  It usually takes less than two hours and recovery is about ten days.  This is touted as one of the more natural looks to facelifts as is the incision procedure described earlier.  There are other minimally invasive surgery techniques available in the arena of dermatology.

As with any procedure, your doctor will know which minimally invasive surgery is right for you.  There may be other non-invasive procedures that you will want to try first.  Anti aging creams and exfoliates literally swamp the skin care market.  There are also make ups the fill wrinkles and lines naturally without any kind of medication needed.  But if you and your doctor decide you want to take things a step further, minimally invasive surgery is a sure step in the right direction toward a more healthy and youthful you.
